I returned late last night from a terrific conference in Philly. What a beautiful, interesting city. It was never a place I would have gone chosen to go on my own, but I am so glad I had the opportunity to see it. Lovely! The weather, after the rain ran its course on Sunday morning, was perfect! I managed to sneak in two great runs along the river (complete with a jog up the "Rocky Steps" to the Art Museum http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif)
Anyway, although most of my week was spent in the Convention Center, I did get out for some outstanding meals and wanted to share in case anyone was headed to Philadelphia soon.
Pasion (yes, one "s")- I believe it's on 15th and Locust, but check in the yellow pages. South American cuisine. It was next to impossible to decide upon an entree- everything sounded so delicious. I settled upon Ecuadorean Ceviches, Pollo grilled, with a Black Bean and Goat Cheese Tamale. Dessert was Empanadas filled with rich, creamy Roasted Banana, Creme, Chocolate. Pasionis pricey, but well worth it.
Panang in Chinatown, between 10th and Arch streets. Malaysian cuisine-lively atmosphere, amazing food, inexpensive, with enormous portions. The Mango Chicken is SOOOO good.
Victor Cafe 1330 Dickinson Street.
My university hosted a dinner here on Thursday night- the entire dining experience was delightful. The wait staff are students of opera- at regular intervals
the restaurant is treated to an aria- we began each course with tears in our eyes and goosebumps prickling our skin. The food was excellent- especially considering they were serving a five course meal to a noisy, wine-swilling party of 40. The portions were generous- the salmon entree was huge!! The ricotta and chocolate chip canoli was
luscious.
The Maggiano's across the street from the Philadelphia Marriott has outstanding service and great soup, the Reading Market was full of incredible pastry, cheese, meat, produce shops and I had some great sushi!
I also went to a pub- a local hangout- with amazing seafood and snapper soup. For the life of me I can't remember the name, but it was easy walking distance from the Philadelphia Marriott...Not much help, that...
Now, to work off all of those meals out http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif
Philly natives, youse guys http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif should be proud of such a wonderful town! Thanks for the great hospitality!
