Hi all, The Wilmington, Delaware cooking club is looking for some new members. Sadly some members have moved away (Bye Sybil and Sara!). We started cooking together (and hanging out) in fall 2002 and have been at it every month since. We meet monthly at a member's home and cook, chat and offer each other support in this crazy world! We are a pretty casual club, cooking everything under the sun (and occassionally going out for dinner when things get really crazy). We have an annual crab feast at Becky's where we cook our own crabs and a holiday cookie exchange.

We are spread out across northern Delaware/Southern PA. We have members as far south as Pike Creek, Delaware and as far north as Kennet Square and West Grove, PA. Look for an article about us in an upcoming issue of Brandywine Signature magazine! Please let us know if you are interested in joining us.

Happy Cooking, Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I am interested in joining a club. I live in Swedesboro, New Jersey. That is just 10 minutes from the Delaware Memorial Bridge. I am willing to travel to a club. I am looking for some new friends. I work at home and it is becoming very lonely. I just started to cook so I am just a beginner.

Hi Lisa,
I recently moved from South Philadelphia to Wilmington, and would really like to join a supper club. Even though I'm only 20 minutes from where I used to live, it's still hard getting adjusted. My children are finally getting used to it, but I still go back to my old neighborhood to shop and visit friends. It's been 5 months since we've moved here, and I'd like to get to know Delaware like I do Philadelphia. I love to cook and bake, and I think this would be a good way for me to meet people, and enjoy my new home.
One question, is this supper club women, couples?
Thanks, Colleen

Hi Colleen (and Kelly),

I'm very excited that there is some interest in our club. Kelly and I have been corresponding via email. I mentioned to her that the easiest thing to do may be to meet at a restaurant for dinner one evening since the journalist and photographer from Brandywine Signature magazine are coming to the January dinner and we will all be on our best behavior (not at all how we usually act!).

Right now, it's just ladies, but men are certainly welcome. Spouses are welcome, we just ask that they are a full cooking member (no mooching off the other spouse's cooking). We do ocassionally do spouse events like our crab feast. We're a pretty laid-back club.

Can you both throw some dates out that will work for you to meet. A weekday night is probably the best for now. If any of you members are checking this post out, throw some dates out as well. We'll try to figure something out for the next few weeks. I don't think everyone will be able to make it, but we can at least meet before February.

Take care, Lisa

P.S. More people are still welcome!

Hi Lisa,
Jan. 11th & 29th are the only days not good for me. I'm pretty flexible. I'd love to be in contact through email, unfortunately, I'm new at this and have no idea how. Meeting first at restaurant is a good idea.
Thanks,
Colleen

Ladies, I am about 1/2 hour from Wilmington. I am trying to join an established club or a new one and it seems like the new one may have some difficulty getting off the ground. I would like to possibly join your group if you have room. I would be willing to do the traveling to DE since I am quite a bit far from all of you. I am in Consh, PA ( near KOP).

HI everyone, Yes, there is definitely room for more. We are looking for about 10 people total (and we have seven current members). Right now we are discussing meeting at a restaurant in the Wilmington area either Jan 12 or the 19th. Cindy and dustballs66, are you free either of those dates? Not sure how the COnshohocken thing would work out. If you wind up joining us, I think you'd probably be in the same boat as Kelly in Swedesboro, where you'd be welcome to attend dinners, but may not get a large showing of people if you were to host. ONe of the reasons we are looking for more members is that it's become really hard to get the entire group together every month. We figure with more members, we'd have at least 6 or so people for each dinner.

Looking forward to meeting you all soon!

-Lisa

P.S. Cindy, I already met you. Not sure if you recognized my name since it's a pretty common one, but I work in the fungicide biology group at DuPont. I'm on maternity leave, but I'll be back at the end of the month! As soon as I saw you were an entomologist, I thought it might be you. Not too many of those around that I don't know!

I though the odds of there being more than one Lisa Hoffman in Wilmington was pretty slim. I hope mom and baby are doing well!

The 12th or 19th are open on my calendar.

HI all, Let's meet this thursday Jan 12 at the Iron Hill Brewery at the Wilmington Waterfront at 7:00. For those of you not familiar with the area. Get onto I-95 towards Wilmington, exit on Martin Luther King Drive and follow signs from there to the Shipyard Shops. Iron Hill is pretty easy to spot. There's also a Joe's Crabshack and Kahunaville in that same area.

See you Thursday.

Good point Kelly. I'll make the reservation in my name and try to get there 15 minutes early. I'm a small asian woman.

Hi Lisa, I hope you get this before dinner tonight, but I won't be able to be there tonight. My daughter came home from school sick. Please let me know how it goes, and if there's another time I can meet all of you .
Thanks,
Collee

Hi Colleen, Sorry you weren't able to make it last night. I hope your daughter is feeling better soon. It seems to be going around again. Are you free this Thursday (Jan 19)? There's a chance that we might be able to get some people together that night. Can you email me at lisaemelehoffman@hotmail.com so I can include you in our group emails?
