I did a search and saw one review for the Coffee Roast. Anyone else try this? I thought I might make this tomorrow. TIA.

Jazz, I'm not sure who's review you saw, but I was the one who originally posted the recipe, but someone else tried it first! I made it a week or two ago, and I was impressed. I used a bottom round roast instead of a chuck roast, because the chucks in my area were half fat! I think I altered the recipe a bit. I chopped a large onion, added about 10 cloves of minced garlic, between 2 and 3 cups of fresh sliced mushrooms, and an envelope of Lipton Onion Soup Mix. My roast was about 3 lbs or so, and I added 6 cups of brewed coffee. All went into the crockpot on low at about 9am. At 6pm I turned it off, so it cooked for about 9 hours. The 'gravy' was very thin, but I poured about 4 cups of it into a saucepan and thickened it using a half cup of the gravy mixed with cornstarch. Very good! Had a very rich taste. The coffee didn't overpower like I thought it might, just gave a unique flavor to the beef.

Anytime a recipe calls for a Dutch Oven on top of the stove for 5 hours I use a crockpot! Easier in the long run and I think the meat turns out more tender. I'm interested to know what you think! I read on the site where I got the original recipe to make sure to use fresh brewed coffee to make sure it's not too bitter. Good Luck! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Thanks Jewel for the tips. In my last search I saw that Susan had really liked the roast but was looking for another review. I'm going to try it. I already "warned" BF about the coffee. I didn't want him to think I was crazy tomorrow am when I put coffee in the crockpot.HaHa

Silly me. I thought we were going to talk about medium roast, dark roast coffee, etc. I forgot about this one, bbut think I'll have to try it and pass it onto DS who is looking for crockpot recipes.

Yes, we loved it. But I didn't tell my DH beforehand that there was coffee in it or he would have been trying to taste it. It is a winner in my book and appreciate Jewel's contribution!! A great, quick crockpot entree, one good enough to make for company, in our opinion! I do think that it is a cool weather dish!

We also liked the coffee roast. The coffee (I used decaf) added a rich flavor. If I recall correctly,I browned the roast first and added more vegies and spices (thyme, a couple of bay leafs, a generous portion of pepper) to the recipe. Confession time-this was the second roast I have ever made! It will be a repeater for us.

I'll let you all know how this turns out. Roast is in the crockpot. I always get so excited to check out a new recipe.

This smelled so delicious, however I was disappointed. My BF is pretty truthful (with tact) of course, but he said he'd give it a 7.0. I think I'd give it a 6.8. I served it over spinach noodles which were good. This is o.k, I'll just be on the look-out for the best roast via the crock-pot. It's fun trying.

I was reluctant to post as I thought I'd be the only one disappointed with the Coffee Roast. I tasted quite bland to us. I used a French Roast Coffee. I followed the recipe. I believe the Lipton Soup Mix someone else added would perhaps have spiced it up a bit. I won't make it again though, as there's better Crock Pot Roast Recipes out there.

Foodiedelite, I did use the onion soup packet. I didn't think this was horrible by all means but I won't make it again either; it tasted bitter to me.
