I am going out to dinner tonight and mystery shopping the location. I must order a drink from the bar. I have seriously TRIED to like alcohol, but have not tried many new things in the last few years because I hate to spend the money when I usually don't care for what I get.
Do you have a drink that is yummy, fruity, and something that I might not think tastes like rubbing alcohol? :) I have been able to drink a little wine here and there (but I think it looks better in the glass than it tastes) and wine coolers and the like are not a problem. I also have been pg or nursing in the last year and a half so have not had much because of that.
Please, tell me what to drink! :p

How about a flavored margarita or daiquri?

I hate the taste of almost all alcohol. When I do drink, my drink of choice is an amaretto sour (made with Di Saronno amaretto). It's roughly half amaretto, half sweet & sour, with a maraschino cherry for good measure. If you like the flavor of amaretto generally, you will probably love this drink. I've turned several friends onto it. It's sweet and fruity, and doesn't taste alcoholic at all IMO.

What about an Amaretto Sour or Malibu and Orange or Pineapple juice?

lol....I just realized I posted this on the "Healthy Living" forum and not "Other Stuff" :p Oh well!
I do like Amaretto flavored things (coffee, cookies, etc) and think I have had in in other desserts. I like the idea of that.
I was thinking of something frozen too, but not sure I was in that kind of mood. It seems so summery.
Thanks!

A good friend of mine that also doesn't like the taste of alcohol and likes things fruity always orders Malibu with Cranberry Juice or Pineapple Juice.
If it were me.....Patron Margarita on the rocks with a salted rim....yum!
I can't get past that alcohol "bite" either.
A couple things I have had that didn't just make me get that squinty-eyed look as I tried to choke it down were drinks with rum in them. Had something called a coco chi chi in Philadelphia---had coconut and rum in it I think---kinda like a souped up tropical daquiri I think.
Then stuff with kahlua? Like a mudslide? or a brown cow? not sure of names---these were kinda like coffee-flavored milkshakes---I think the mudslide actually had ice cream in it. :)
And you can probably tell the bartender to go easy on the alcohol.
Or maybe a nice port or dessert wine?
Fruit juices can hide a lot of that alcohol bite if the bartender isn't goes easy on the alcohol. Then there are all those fancy martinis that sound like they'd taste good...

Midori Sours are wonderful!! Midori is a melon liquor, and the mixed drink is the same as the Amaretto sour with midori instead of amaretto. Another cool part: it's VERY vivid green! :p I'm afraid I don't know very many other mixed drinks that don't taste too much like alcohol.

Michelle I was laughing when I saw you started this thread. You have never struck me as a big boozer ;)
I would second the vote for a margarita or daquairi. I am partially to strawberry daquairi's and lots of time they put whipped cream on top!
My other thought is a white russian which is Kahlua, milk or cream and vodka. You could even tell them to go light on the vodka.
Have fun!

Michelle - vodka drinks are relatively mild in alcohol taste...so you might like a Screwdriver or a Harvey Wallbanger. Another thought would be a Bloody Mary (which is spicy tomato juice and vodka). Rum and coke or gin and tonic might work (but some gin tastes like perfume IMHO).

If you wanted frozen, I recommend brandy alexanders. Not even sure what's in 'em, but you could easily be at dairy queen. Yum!
If you like mint, then mojitos are yummy. Sugar, mint & rum, can't go wrong.
Also, if it's a nice place with a great bartender, I love to just see what they recommend. If he/she is any good, they'll be used to your request and know exactly what to suggest.
There are a ton of martini's these days that don't taste like alcohol at all! apples. chocolate. raspberry. just name your fav flavor, and they probably have a martini for it.
Ohhhhhhhh - Appletini ......you'll never even know you had alcohol until you try to get off the barstool!!! Take a designated driver for sure! :D

If you don't like alcohol just order something like orange juice, cranberry juice, grapefruit juice, Coke, or Sprite.

I don't like the taste of alcohol either, but I have no problem with gin and tonic! Usually all I taste is the tonic anyway, and I like the flavor of that... :D

How about a Bay Breeze? It's vodka, cranberry & pineapple - not to be confused w/a SEA breeze, which is grapefruit and vodka. the more expensive the vodka, the less you taste.
I would only suggest that since you don't like the taste of alcohol; otherwise, i would say it's a waste of money to spring for the good stuff.
Edited to add I meant the vodka! LIke ask for Kettleone vs. house or Skyy is not too bad, tho not my fav. anymore but still better than house...

Thanks all! I think I will see how it goes. I may try that amaretto sour, or do a nice coffee drink. The stipulations of the shop are that my guest and I each have to order a beverage that will come from the bar, so I figure, what the heck? I might as well try something new.

Michelle - if you really don't like the taste of liquor and it just has to come from the bar, you can always order a VIRGIN verison of a daiquri/margarita/pina colada etc. Even a virgin mary instead of a bloody mary (still the spice, just not the liquor).

How about a Bailey's Irish Cream on the rocks?

Well, I got the amaretto sour and enjoyed it! I am a little tipsy and almost got a fancy coffe, but decided for a decaf instead :)
Thanks! I was happy to try something new and enjoy it.

Michelle,
Glad you enjoyed the drink. I'm not much of a drinker either -- now if we were talking milk shakes that would be a different story.
If you don't mind me asking, I was wondering what you think if Mystery Shopping. I know there are legit and not legit companies -- and was wondering your thoughts. Do you do it often and was wondering if you had any suggestions. I was just wondering how the amount you might get for a mystery shop compares to the time involved (but I will say a night out is great.
On a different note, I have lurked on some threads and love the pictures of your little boy. He is adorable!
Thanks,

A little late-but for future reference, an Alabama Slammer (as a drink NOT (I repeat NOT) a shot) is fruity and deadly :p

I signed up to do mystery shops for my supermarket. Getting paid to shop...what fun. There are shops that are more money, but a lot of time I just do the product returns. Get a private label product, taste it, return it and get money back and usually a replacement brand-name product or double money back, fill out about 6 questions (easy) and earn 8-12 dollars. The longer surveys (not hard but you have to ask employees to help you find things) pay around 12-20 dollars. Then you have to answer a bunch more questions and fax in your receipt.
I'd like to branch out and do shops and more fun places. I remember Missindi does a lot of shops (as well as a few other people.) You may want to do a search or start a new thread.

Thanks,
I did a lot of shopping more before Maxwell was born and now most of the ones I used to do (banks, cellular service, retail, etc) are just not worth it to haul a baby with me and try to b ein the mindset to pay attention and remember all the details. I do occasionally do restaurants and other shops that give me a DH a night out or that I can bring Maxwell easily along, or that I can do when DH is home and I can go out. I hope to pick up a few more here and there. Overall, I would not do it for the money unless you are willing to put in a lot of time researching and applying for shops. I was gung-ho in the beginning and then fizzled out. My taxes last year told me it definately wasn't worth my time and gas money, but you do get to claim mileage as a business expense so that helps.
The income has helped a bit as I was working two jobs until I started ivf treatments. I used the money to help cover extra costs and fill up my time and get me out doing something.
A good place to start is www.volition.com They have a lot of info, message boards, and a list of mystery shopping companies to apply to. It is a lot of work, especially in the beginning, but have fun with it and try out a few. Average rate for a retail/cell phone/bank shop is about $12-$20. You go, pretend you are interested and ask questions, come home and fill out a report and submit it online. You are usually paid within 60 days, most of time through Paypal. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask! (But maybe in another thread or PM as I think my "boozer" thread may disappear :D )

it is sloe gin, southern comfort, and amaretto with orange juice
some people also add jack daniels, some use lemon juice instead, some add a splash of cranberry or sweet and sour. properly made it should almost be like fruit punch.....with a very large kick :p
