As most of you, i started to work in a bakery. We carry muffins like sour cream blueberry, cinnaomon raisen and bran. What is most interesting people don't ask for butter and they really don't ask for it with their bagels. I have yet for a customer to ask for butter with their muffins or bagels. I thought that was kinda of strange. tell me am I out of sync so to speak.

I don't eat butter on my muffins, so that seems normal to me. But bagels?? Does everyone order cream cheese? That's really interesting, Matt. I'll have to pay closer attention when I'm in line at my bakery to see what people order!

Matt, I usually don't put butter on muffins. Every once in a while I might "slurge" if I was having a muffin just warm from the oven. Don't get me wrong, I love butter but try to limit it. As well, I usually don't put cream cheese on my bagel to avoid the extra calories. If the bagel is very fresh, I'd rather eat it like a donut. If it's not so "fresh" I usually would toast it and use a very small amount of butter.

I don't butter my muffins either. If I felt the need for butter, that would mean it wasn't a very good muffin! But, then, I'm also one of those who doesn't usually butter my rolls/bread in restaurants either - unless it's one of those really yummy herbed butters.

As for bagels - sometimes a small amount of butter, sometimes a small amount of flavored cream cheese, but there are so many good things to do with a bagel!

I'm a no butter on muffins person, but I do have one exception. The magic muffins that are made with Malt o Meal; I like just a touch of butter or jam on them. I usually buy bagels by the dozen and bring them home. I like so little lowfat cream cheese on bagels that I can't order them out without scraping some off even after asking for a small amount. I've decided I should tell them to use so little that they feel guilty for charging me for it.

I don't butter either, although I love cream cheese on a bagel. I used to work with a lady who should have just sliced the butter and stuck it on her muffin - she used to load it on pretty thick.

I don't normally put butter on my muffins. But, most of the time when I buy them at a muffin shop, they are not hot. On a rare occasion I would put butter on a warm muffin.

No butter here either, but I do like a smear of light cream cheese on my toasted bagel, particularly if there not hot. If there hot, just give it to me and i'll eat it like a doughnut.

I only slather butter on a warm muffin in the privacy of my own home http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif and only cream cheese on my bagels; never butter!!

I never do the butter thing, not even on toast. Never on a muffin! As lindrusso said, if it needs butter it isn't a very good muffin.

Never butter on a muffin. I was appalled years ago when I ordered a muffin at the work cafeteria and it came grilled w/butter!

I like just a dab of butter on fresh warm muffins, and on reheated ones a little butter keeps them from drying out (if they've been frozen and I defrost in microwave). The muffins I make are all CL recipes though, and I'll bet most bakery muffins have a lot of butter in them already so they probably don't need any more.

Matt, does your bakery offer any reduced-calorie or reduced-fat baked goods? Just curious - around here they're hard to come by.

Matt - I use butter. I love it. I get ridiculed for it. And we live in fat free zone.

Matt, I must agree that you are out of sync. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

I see butter on muffins in butter ads, and Emeril likes to slather butter on them on his show. (When he's not piling Grand Marnier-drenched filling, chocolate sauce and whipped cream on pound cake, that is.) But I never butter muffins. I put cream cheese on bagels -- which is partly why I don't eat them often.
