Does anyone know if Lipton Onion soup mix is something that a person with Celiac disease can eat? I do not have the original box, so I am lost. EVEN if I did have the box, I would be at a loss!!! :D
TIA

I did a search & one site said this Lipton soup is gluten free. http://www.okceliac.com/50things.php I found another article that said that McCormick sauces are "clean" & suggested using McCormick bouillon cubes with dehydrated onion. Hope this helps. Wish my friend with celiac lived in town & I'd call her. Good luck.

thanks dorothy.
Does anyone know what is xanthan gum and where would I find it in the grocery? Does regular vanilla contain gluten?

check this out for a description of xanthan gum: https://www.bobsredmill.com/catalog/index.php?action=showdetails&product_ID=431
In my grocery store, it is with the gluten-free foods. It generally comes in 8 ounce bags and is expensive ($11ish), but a bag will last forever.
I think McCormick vanilla extract is gluten-free, but I'm not 100% positive.

SweetTooth, the problem with trying to find gluten-free foods is that except for fresh produce & meat you can't assume that a product made by multiple manufacturers will all be GF. Sometimes the caramel coloring such as in colas, has gluten in it. My friend with celiac can drink Coke but not Pepsi. Some potato chips aren't safe because other products containing gluten are manufactured on the same conveyor belt & contaminate an otherwise safe food. So regarding vanilla, one brand may be safe while another isn't.
Once I cooked dinner for her & the salad dressing contained soy sauce. I couldn't use my brand & waited until she arrived with her own GF brand to make the dressing. So it's very complicated & you certainly don't want to make a mistake. When my friend has an "episode" she's sick for days. I feel so sorry for those with this disease. The celiac.com website has lots of good info.

Thanks for all the help everyone. Our DS is dating a girl w/Celiac. I was hoping to make the turkey breast in the crock pot w/garlic and onion soup for sandwiches for this weekend. Sounds like it will work.
I agree Dorothy, I do feel bad for anyone that has to watch what they eat for any reason. I am fortunate, my stomach handles anything! :D And too much of lots of things, I might add. :)
