Just wondering...I have been drinking seltzer water since being pregnant, but have had different recipes that call for Club Soda or Tonic Water or whatever and I'm curious about what the difference is between all of them. To me, they all look like clear liquid with carbonation.

Club soda and seltzer water are primarily just carbonated water some have added sodium some do not. Tonic water has quinine which accounts for the taste (nasty IMHO :p )...I believe it also has sugar and sodium since I've seen diet tonic.

Tonic water has flavoring and calories generally so it's not interchangeable with club soda or seltzer.
Essentially both club soda and seltzer are aerated waters -- i.e. fizzy. At one time, the sodium level was different but I would imagine that those lines are blurred. I would use either interchangeably except maybe in an egg cream. :D
At one time, seltzer in New York was delivered in bottles with a nozzle that you used and some of the Jewish restaurants would put a bottle of the stuff on the table.

I agree!
I got a bottle of gin and a bottle of tonic water in my stocking, but can't drink them yet.
Thanks for the info. :)

Speaking of tonic water... does anyone know of a brand of tonic that DOESN'T use high fructose corn syrup as a sweetener?
A good substitute for tonic would be just as appreciated.
I'm REALLY trying to avoid HFCS, and I haven't been able to enjoy a gin&tonic for a very long time as a result... :D

Have you tried Whole Foods as they tend to carry "organic" sodas -- if that isn't an oxymoron. There is also diet tonic although I am not sure how you feel about that chemical. :)

To me, tonic water tastes like that white part of peel from an orange.

Very good description! :D I'm not a gin drinker either! :p And I prefer my vodka straight from the freezer!
