Because, lucky me, I'll be there next weekend. I am interested in dining recommendations and shopping recommendations.

I gather that Sundance Film Festival is also taking place next weekend - is it going to be a zoo? Media/Stars/Paparazzi?

Should I be dressing warm/casual or should I be bringing the jewels?

Thanks in advance!

I was there for the Winter Olympics in 02 and (at least then) it was casual. We ate at my dad's condo (he worked security) so no dining ideas, but be warned the alcohol is expensive! (~$6 for a corona!). Have fun :)

I was there this summer (so can't comment on the Film Fest crowd), and everything was casual. Restaurants downtown that I'd recommend are:

350 Main This was my FAVORITE place -- we actually ate there twice in the week we were there.

Also really liked Chimayo, which had innovative southwest-style cuisine. DH had the crown roast of ribs which was awesome to look at AND to eat! Sadly, I forget what I had, but it was great, too.

Robert Redford's downtown restaurant, Zoom, is also great.

Everything's kinda pricey....it was nice in summer because there were 2 for 1 coupons floating all over the place.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the one restaurant we had a BAD experience at, but it is down on the left-hand side in the plaza outside the Marriott Summit Watch, they have sort of continental-type food. I know that's not much help, but our meal there was HORRIBLE.

There are many great places downtown, you won't have any difficulty having some great meals, and I'm sure it'll be a fun, bustling time. I loved our vacation there, and would go back anytime!

Thanks! I've printed the menus for Chimayo and Zoom.

My dh tells me that we are staying in Salt Lake City - so I guess that I need to change my request a bit. I am now looking for dinner recommendations in Salt Lake for Friday night. Saturday we'll spend the day shopping/eating in Park City.

Hi Debie! I'm from Salt Lake. Will you be staying downtown? What kind of food do you like? Do you want something fancy or maybe a little more casual?

Any of the Gastronomy restaurants are good. Market Street Grill (great seafood) and Baci Trattoria (Italian) are my favorites. Here is the website: Gastronomy restaurants (http://www.gastronomyinc.com/)

If you like authentic Mexican, there is a little place called the Red Iguana that is great! The place is kind of a dive, but the food is killer. They're known for their moles. Here is the website: Red Iguana (http://www.rediguana.com/home.html)

There's also Bambara, which is located in the Hotel Monaco. I've never eaten there, but it always gets good reviews. Bambara (http://www.monaco-saltlakecity.com/monslm_dining.html)

So that should give you some place to start. If you want more ideas, let me know!

Oh, and Park City will indeed be a zoo. It's fun, but it's a zoo!

Just wanted to add this article that is in today's Salt Lake Tribune:

From Boise, we're a 4-5 hour drive to SLC. DH and I have been there several times and we totally second Heidi's recommendations for Market Street Grill, Baci and Red Iguana (DH's personal fave - the salsa rocks!)

350 Main is also terrific.

There was also a nicer/higher end place we visited with friends - it involved a drive up into the hills. Nice walking path, gardens, valet, etc. and the food and wine were fabulous. If only I could remember the name - and I don't know if I've given Heidi (or anyone else from the area) enough info to work with :o

Thanks ladies! I can't wait to get out of town, even if only for a couple of days. Wonder if we'll see any celebrities???

We are staying at the Grand Americana(???) downtown. I understand its very nice, guess we'll see. This is kind of a business trip for my dh, so we usually stay in the best places.

Thanks again! The mexican place looks like a great place - $10 says we'll be eating there if dh has anything to say about it!

Hmm, I wonder if this might have been La Caille? It's further south, close to the mountains. You drive up a long private lane and it's nestled in the back. It's a fancy French place where the waitresses wear these dresses that give them, ahem, bountiful cleavage. The grounds are really beautiful and there are peacocks and such. Incidentally, the exterior of La Caille was featured in the movie "Dumb and Dumber." And that's your random trivia for the day. :)

I had a GREAT time! I posted a recap of our trip somewhere - my search isn't working right now though.

We were there during Sundance, so I got to see a celebrity. Guess which one? paris hilton   Ya, I'm so hott.

We ate at Red Iguana - and had to stand outside under the heat lamps for a while. But the wait was SOOOOOO worth it!

Ski'd at Canyon.

Hung out at Park City for a day.

Stayed at the Grand American - wow.

I loved Salt Lake City. Like - "I wanna move to the area" loved it. Soooo pretty.

I'm really glad that you enjoyed your trip. Park city is alot prettier here in the summer. If you like green trees and grass. beautiful mountian flowers. And if you like wild life there is plenty of it running around. Just yesterday i saw a moose walk by our job site.

I hated sundance though. Just because traffic was horrible. Trying to get to work was a head ache.
