I have seen the emrill instructions on seasoning his stainless cookware. My question is does all stainless cookware need to be seasoned? Also after it is seasoned, can it be washed in the dishwasher or does it need to be treated like cast iron?

Thanks!

I've never heard of seasoning stainless steel. My care instructions for the various product lines I have bought merely state that one is to wash before using.

Most SS can be put in the DW but again, consult your care instructions.

I use Barkeepers friend occasionally to get off stains, particularly on the bottom. Regular scrubbing cleansers (i.e. Comet, Ajax) can scratch the surface which doesn't affect anything bu the appearance.

I have lots of stainless and have never seasoned it.

As for the dishwasher, if it's all stainless it should be fine in the dishwasher. I have the All Clad LTD line and it has kind of a brushed gray surface. The surface degrades in the dishwasher, but it doesn't hurt the preformance of the pan.

Hi,
I actually work for All-Clad and no, you do not have to season the SS pans. Just an FYI, LTD should not go in the dishwasher. The only line of AC that can is the all SS line.

I second the Bar Keeper's Friend as a cleaning product. It works great on so many surfaces including the cookware. I use it every time I do cookware (crazy that way about keeping it shiny) but it is so easy to use.

Hope that helps.

Hey Julie, as long as you work for All Cald...
I got the LTD pans from my mom, who put them in the dishwasher and didn't like the way they looked after awhile. I took them off her hands, reasoning that the performance of the pans didn't change even if the appearance did. I'm pretty sure I'm right but since you're on the board I thought I'd double check with you...

Hi,
No, other than the appearance, it doesn't affect the cooking of the pan. Going forward though, I would really suggest not putting them in the dishwasher. Bar keeper's works great and is an easy way to get them clean with little effort. If you are not familiar with it, you can get it at Bed Bath & Beyond and even some grocery stores.

If you have other questions, please ask or PM me.
