I can't believe Bobby Flay won (although I couldn't taste the food http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif !). Morimoto should have won on presentation alone!!

I am in the minority here..but I was for Flay (even though he is full of himself). I was looking more of the USA vs. Japan angle.
Anyway, the first one had all Americans as judges and this one had Japanese. Since each knows what to expect from the "hometown" boy..don't you think that something different would sway you the other way? I think it would for me.
They should do it one more time but have two Americans and two Japanese.

Although not a fan of the show, I did watch. I didn't think that Bobby Flay would win because the judges seemed to like Morimoto's food better. Maybe it was fixed, so that they have another contest!!

I never thought I'd say this, but...I think Bobby deserved to win. I can't stand the arrogant little worm, but in my opinion he used a bit more creativity in his food preparation and gave those Japanese judges flavors and textures they weren't really used to! Did you see that Giggly Lady's (and the Samurai Man's) face when he was deep frying those lobsters? Giggly Lady also freaked when she saw him take corn off the cob like it'd never been done before! That just freaked her out!
And I'm sorry, but Morimoto's Lobster Huddle standing up over that bonfire just gave me the willies...
The only thing that really perturbed me was that they reported that Bobby admitted that his standing on the cutting board after the last challenge was uncalled-for, but then he 'threw' the cutting board and did his 'Rocky Stance' once again on the food prep counter. In my opinion, arrogance at its best and totally uncalled for. He won, he should have 'prided' the USA and accepted it much more gracefully and with a bit of dignity...not shoe marks on the prep table.

I dont like Bobby Flay either but I did like his dishes better. That first one looked pretty good!
It cracked me up the way the judges kept saying Morimoto was acting like an American in his techniques.

HA! It sounds like I might not have been alone fussing at my television last night!! :-) I thought the panel liked Morimoto's dishes better as well!! I have to admit, though, I do NOT like Bobby Flay and get a big kick out of watching Morimoto.
Did anyone happen to see the rerun of Gordon Elliot's Doorknock Dinner just before Iron Chef came on? It was hysterical. Morimoto and another Japanese chef were the chefs for the evening!! They had the quick interruptions by the reporter (copying the one who's on the stadium floor), silly giggly comments by a "high-voiced female", and several other OBVIOUS similarities. I enjoyed laughing at it almost as much as watching the real show.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the first or second Flay vs. Morimoto battle. I love Iron Chef, but the jingoism in the Flay vs. Morimoto battles just grated my nerves.
Did anyone else think Flay's girlfriend looked like a bimbo?

I fell asleep and missed the ending! Sorry to hear that Bobby Flay won. I'd be surprised he could make it throught the door to leave, as his head certainly was so "swollen"!

She certainly didn't have an intelligent thought in her head

I agree about the blonde-bimbo. I thought she was probably a pretty good match for him when she was interviewed and she said something like "well, we didn't come all this way just to lose".
Ugh.

I know...totally arrogant..very good match.

I watched two matches one after the other. First I noticed Bobby seemed upset when he had those lobsters in the wok frying (seemed not enough heat) then either he was concentrating too much or was arrogant. The girlfriend..oh gosh did not like her attitute. The iron chef seemed running out of time as BObby finished first. What I saw clearly was Bobby threw the chopping board then stood on the counter. That made the iron chef mad. Because last time he was told you don't stand in your cutting board Bobby threw it but then he is actually standing where you preper food (counter). That seemed out of place for Bobby to do. If he knew that was not done he should not do it.
About the food it seemed the panel had more ohs and ahs for the Iron CHef so I was surprised Bobby was the winner. AS i recall they did not like the corn Bobby made. Both dishes seemed nice. I think the sauces made BObby win and the Iron chef let the sweetness of Japanesse lobsters stand out more.

I thought from all the great comments Morimoto received from the panel that he had won hands down. I was even beginning to feel sorry for Flay. I can't believe I said that - even after he, once again, jumped up on the prep counter. How obnoxious is that? And his girlfriend looked to be right up his alley. Very young and probably puts him on a pedestal which I'm sure he adores. I do wish she'd had done something with those bushy dark eyebrows though!

I heard that they weren't together anymore. I wonder if she watched??!!
Jewel, I laughed at the corn on the cob bit too - how would the Japanese take the corn off???
Melman I saw a clip of the Door Knocker dinner and loved it. They should make a show of foreign chefs visiting homes with unfamiliar ingredients. I'd watch it. The creativity would really come out.
I do agree, Bobby Flay's dishes did look better though.

I figured that Flay was going to win because Morimoto won last time and they would want to even things up. Plus now that things are even we won't have to endure another rematch with Flay involved. I just wish he didn't act like such a punk! When I watched the first match I was rooting for Flay because I'm as patriotic as the next guy. And also because I sometimes think that the Iron Chef is fixed because the Iron Chefs sometimes beat Challengers that create much better dishes.
After Flay acted like such a baby during the first battle and made all those "raise the roof" guestures and was so obnoxious, I decided that I wouldn't root for him this time. Plus that whole thing with Flay jumping on the cutting board last time and throwing the cutting board this time was just stupid. Last time Morimoto was mad because knives and cutting boards are sacred and Bobby stood on his cutting board. How is flinging your cutting board to the floor before you jump onto the counter any less sacriligious? Flay is such a boob! For some dumb reason I thought that he would act more toned down and respectful in Japan. I thought that he would try to bring pride to his country but he kept up all the machismo. I guess that is why they picked him, the execs at the Food Network wanted somebody controversial and a little over-the-top. Too bad they didn't pick somebody with a little more class.
I'll second the request to get info on when this will be shown again on FoodTV. I missed it last night because I wanted to watch the season premiere of Sex and the City .
I checked the FoodTv web site, but they don't have info on the reruns.

I just grabbed this off the foodtv.com website.
Thanks Melman! I'm looking forward to seeing the show, especially after everyone's comments on this post! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

If you guys check the bulletin boards of foodtv you will see many did not agree with Bobby's attitude etc....Seems if he had acted more respectfully it would be better. The Iron chef got high praise for his graceous way in loosing.

Thanks for posting that chat transcript. Here is one of the gems of the conversation:
Q: Bobby, the Japanese seem to have extraordinary culinary skills. What have you learned from Morimoto in your experiences on "Iron Chef"?
Bobby: Not to stand on the cutting board! (Note I didn't stand on it this time--that was calculated!)
http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/rolleyes.gif He's not the sharpest tool in the shed!

Sorry but this is very similar to my sons' discussions about WWF! Either I don't watch enough TV or y'all watch way too much!

Hehehe - Sorry Sneezles, but I don't think you need to watch a whole lot of TV to get the jest of Bobby Flay. At least I don't. He's that obtuse.

Sandy,
I do admit that cooking shows (of any nature) drive me bonkers(more commercials than any cooking or tips) so I don't even know who Bobby Flay is and it seems I'm really not missing much! I'll let my addiction to the BB be all the entertainment I need!

Sneezles, I agree 100% about all the advertisements on the cooking shows....with one exception!! If you ever get a chance, try to catch Good Eats with Alton Brown. That man crams more hints and ideas and techniques into a 30 minute show than you could possibly imagine!! My belief...between Alton Brown and CL, who needs any other cooking information!! :-)

this is a hilarious thread!
1. bobby is ridiculously cocky... "they're doing it to me again!" ??? get over yourself!!!
2. it was interesting that morimoto decided not to use soy sauce... i think he was evening out the playing field. i thought that the japanese judges would appreciate that a lot!
3. it seemed like they loved all of morimoto's dishes and with bobby's, they liked some but mostly just commented on his boldness, not really the taste as much. i was shocked that bobby won.
ps... the corn comment was hilarious to me, too!
