Does anyone have any suggestions about reviving an enamel cast iron stock pot that, alas, was badly scorched by my husband in a recent cooking fiasco? It was a gift from a now deceased neighbor and I am loathe to throw it out. However, despite all kind of cleaning efforts (boiling with baking soda, many commercial cleaners), the enamel is still slightly discolored and and slightly scrateched looking on most of the bottom. Almost any substance I try to heat in it other than plain water ends of sticking and burning very easily. I tried to find sources that would re-enamel the pot but have been unable to locate any. If it were just a chip I could presumably season over it and still use the pot, but unfortunately about 2/3 of the bottom sticks with every meal. Any suggestions much appreciated.

What brand is it? If it is a Le Creuset, maybe you could contact the company...or contact them anyway and ask them for a suggestion. :)

I have a bottle of Le Creuset cleaner, but haven't had to use it yet. I have a couple of pieces that I basically use in the oven, so I haven't burned anything. Yet.

I have had good luck using a couple tablespoons of baking soda (or more), some water, and letting it sit. After a few hours (overnight if it is really bad) stuff just wipes off.
The thing that worked for me when baking soda wasn't working was a tip I found here -- soak with hot water and oxyclean. It's worth a try!

I use diswasher detergent (powdered), and hot water to soak. Good luck!!

I would be more concerned about the scratches than the discoloration; is the enamel actually cracked?

Heh. I called them after a stupid cooking incident and they said they can't say anything without seeing the piece. I declined to mail my 7.5 quart Dutch oven!
