So, I got Cookies by the Dozen in the mail last night (yay!). As I was reading through it, I got to their brownie recipe. It's baked in the standard 8x8, and they said it made 12 large or 16 medium pieces. Maybe I'm just gluttonous, but I cut brownies (when I rarely make them) into 9 pieces - 3 each way. 16 seems small to me, not medium.

So, my question is - how large are your brownies? And other baked goods - how do you slice?

I would slice them into 12 but then I would probably eat more than one :p It's more for portion control and the awareness that I'm getting a second one

Yeah, I would cut an 8X8 into 12 also, with the same disclaimer ;)

Depends ... for "home eating" I'd cut an 8x8 into 16, which is 2" squares. If I'm making up gift boxes or a dessert tray or something, I'd cut a little smaller, maybe 20 or 25.

Like everyone else, I would probably cut about 12 servings, but with the nibbling and picking afterward I bet I could just start with cutting 9 :D

I stick to light recipes but cut them ( usually) into 9 pieces. DH gets one in his lunch each day & he does not need to watch calories. the only time I eat brownies these days is if we are hiking or skiing and burning enough calories that a brownie is no big deal. If I were making a very rich recipe, like for guests, I'd probably go to 12.
I would call 16 brownies from an 8x8 microscopic, although it depends on how rich they are and if they are served alone or with other choices. (my mother always served brownies with ice cream) If you've made several things, guests may want to try small bites of different sweets rather than one great big one.

for an 8x8 pan, I would cut them into 9 pieces - this way 1 brownie fills me up and I won't go back for another one (usually!)........

I don't see why ... if I make three cuts in one direction, and three cuts across, that produces a 4x4 grid, each square being 2". I would hardly call a 2" square microscopic!

It's not microscopic, but its only about 2 or 3 bites worth. I like my sweets to have more bites per piece :)

I cut an 8x8 pan of brownies 4x4 or into 16 pieces most of the time. Sweets and desserts are supppose to be a "treat" and not the main attraction.

I lost over 40 pounds on WW and have kept it off for 10 years by following portion controll. That's not to say Iwouldn't want to eat the whole pan!!!!!

I use a 9x9 pan for the brownies and cut them into 16 pieces I think. I can be happy if I get at least one before they all disappear  For cookies I use the small cookie scoop.

I would cut an 8x8 pan into 20 pieces most often, maybe into 16. I think of a brownie as being like a cookie, where you probably eat more than one, not like a piece of cake, where one piece is a serving.
