I've created a webpage with more information on the event. It's located at: http://www.cookinglight.com/clweekend
There's also a new bulletin board just for this event. Click on Cooking Light Community at the top of the page and then click on Weekend with CL!

Thank you Maelynn! I just visited the link and registered. I also took a virtual tour via video to "Sweet Birmingham"....WOW! There is so much to do there and so little time. Would love to go to Zoo, Galleria, Tree Top Nature Trail, Vulcan..... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Wow, I sure do wish I was going to be able to go along!! I lived in Birmingham for about 2 & 1/2 years. I would recommend that you go visit the Botanical Gardens. They are beautiful. Of course, the Galleria is a lot of fun (I used to go shopping at least every other week!). You will all have such a wonderful time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things will change and I'll be able to join all of you.

Like Cheryl, I so wish I was able to go along, but I will be unable to. Maelynn, will photos and stories of this trip find their way into a future CL article? Since I can't make it, I would definitely love to see a great article about it with lots of photos!

Has anyone else registered and either checked the airline prices or bought their tickets? I have checked out the websites that Maelynn posted and from what I can see $302.50 is the price right now for round trip from BOS to BHM. I have never planned my own airline tickets before so I could use some tips. Would it be better to go through a travel agent? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Mamasue,
The price from Boston to Atlanta was much better. Though I guess I'd spend the money saved renting a car....we'll see.

If you have a corporate agent, I might check that. A lot of the agents now have a software program that automatically scans for cheaper aifare every day and "grabs" it for you, even after you have booked your flight.

If y'all are ever up late, you might try checking the airlines after midnight (I think about 1:00am). This is when all the seats get released that people had reserved, but not yet purchased.
Also, sometimes you can get better web fares than you can by calling the airlines direct. When my family and I were moving out east I got airfare from LA to Baltimore for about $200/ticket on the web, when I called the airline directly it at least $100 or more per ticket.
Hope this helps.
