View Full Version : CANNING BBQ SAUCE

Can I can bbq sauce in mason jars if I follow the same canning directions for a basic tomato sauce ? Anybody a canning expert or ever canned BBQ sauce before. PLEASE HELP http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

Haven't ever done BBQ sauce but have done tons of tomato and spaghetti sauce and don't see why it wouldn't work.

Thank you for replying so quickly ! One more question - if the sauce has a "little"dab of butter in it - is that cause for alarm (regarding it staying fresh and all on the shelf) ?

Shouldn't be a problem if you can using the hot water bath method. My spagetti sauce has olive oil in it and I've never had a problem.

I have been canning for over 30 years and have done BBQ sauces a number of times. If you process your sauce as you would any other tomato sauce in water bath, you would be just fine even with the addition of butter.

DH would be envious. We haven't made BBQ sauce in years! But it does can fine as you've been told. Have fun.
