I'm new to this BB, so I'm sure this has been asked before. Everyone seems to have Mastercook, which versions do you have (Mastercook Cooking Light or Complete Mastercook)? Where do you get the current issue's of CL's recipes to download (I've noticed several posted here)? What features do you love about Mastercook? Is there any other comparable recipe software? Sorry for so many questions but I just got a new Mac at home and being an organization freak, I would love to have my fave recipes at my fingertips because the annuals can get cumbersome to leaf through.

Hi Jogren,
Welcome http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
I think others might have more info, but I have the CL edition of Mastercook 6. I love it. It goes back to about 1994. You can search, import recipes, make your own cookbook, have a favorites list, etc. I don't know about downloading a whole issue of CL, I haven't been aware of it if you can do it. Maybe someone else can answer that for you. I know some people get "CookPack" or something like that, which enables them to download just the CL recipes. I don't know much more than that about it.
Anyway, I love my Mastercook. I especially like playing around with some of my older decadent recipes, and lightening them up. The nutritional information is very helpful.

Jorgen,
you will find a lot of good information on this topic if you click the "search" button and type in mastercook. But be sure to choose the option where you are searching in the "subject only" not in the "entire message."

Sorry to be a downer, Jogren, but unless something has come out just recently, I don't believe Sierra offers a Mac version of MasterCook.

I think Karen is right. LauraB posted about that earlier. Possibly the program grew to the point they could not put both versions on a CD and they felt there was not enough demand for the MAC version?
I think there are earlier versions that can be used on MACs you might be able to find somewehere (ebay or someplace that sells used software), but they won't have all the features. I think the most significant difference might be that MAC versions predate the import assistant.
You and the others who have been disappointed should contact Sierra (Mastercook's publisher) and let them know there is a demand for the MAC version. MAybe you can get them to offer it again.

CookWare has a Mac version. Do a search of CookWare to find out all the details, or go to www.cookn.com (http://www.cookn.com)

I'm so disappointed that there may not be a Mac version of Mastercook! I thought I saw one when I was at my local CompUSA, but maybe it was Cookware or an old version of Mastercook instead. Well, if worst comes to worst, I am half of a dual-platform couple - my husband is a PC user. Won't be a fun as using my new Mac though!

Jogren, CookWare isn't sold in the stores. It is a free software that can be downloaded from www.cookn.com (http://www.cookn.com)
I have had it since 1995 and love it. It's much more simplistic a software than MasterCook, i.e., no grocery lists or menu planning, but it is an awesome recipe organization software. And the Cookpacs (the downloads of each month's entire set of recipes) are also available on that website. They work with either CookWare or MasterCook.

Good info, Grace. I'll go check it out, afterall, free software is always a good thing. And all I really want it to do is organize my recipes. Thanks!

FYI - I actually contacted Sierra (makers of MasterCook) by phone and indeed, they have not made a Mac version since the Mastercook 4.0 version. For all you Mac-users, if this bugs you, you can suggest they come out with a new version by e-mailing them at either suggestions@sierra.com or customer.support@sierra.com. I'll probably be very happy with Cookware, I just hate it when software companies withold popular software from the Mac Users.
