I am the advisor to a student organization that is holding its second annual Anti-Valentine Valentine Bake Sale next week. The idea is to be funny, witty, etc., and sell lots of baked goods to raise money for the organization.

Some of the things they did last year:

Sugar cookies shaped/iced to look like little heart candies w/ phrases like:
It's Not You, It's Me
We need to talk
Let's be friends

Anatomically correct gingerbread people

One girl this year bought the mini-rose bundt pan and is making "Black roses" (chocolate cakes) in them.

So, what should I do? I know there are some creative bakers out here. I want something that is witty, tasty, and not over-the-top on sugar and fat.

This is a college crowd, so no holds barred!

TIA!

Tanya

Too funny! I love it! At the moment, I can't really think of anything other than cakes with the message: Happy )&^% VD! on it; or No one will ever love me like I love myself or plain old I love me!

Knowing my "affection" for the silly holiday, a couple of friends always call me to wish me one.

As if my ideas aren't bad enough, I may return with more from the cockles of my jaded heart.

What a funny and unique idea! Love it!
I'm going to contemplate this and return with an idea (I hope).

Well, since it is the college crowd....In Hawaii, we always treat ourselves to a local speacialty, Donkey Balls--Kind of a big round truffle with a macademia nut in the middle!

You could use a heart shaped cookie cutter & cut the point off the cookies so they look like a "bum". Write KISS OFF on them. Not too jaded. ;)

What a fun idea!

The only thing I can think of is broken heart cookies- maybe do some large heart-shaped cutouts, bake, and break in half. Or use a knife to cut a jagged line in heart-shaped cutouts before baking...

I hope you'll come back and post the eventual list of items that the students come up with- I'd love to read it!

Just another phrase suggestion for your sugar cookies -- "It's not me, it's you."

I think this is cool!

How about homemade fortune cookies with funny/sarcastic sayings inside?
Like: "Why is their a holiday that shares its initials with a sexually transmitted disease?"

i just had a party this weekend where we did "anti-valentine cookies" and we got REALLY raunchy! i baked my grandma's christmas cookies, but made them all hearts and then the girls came over and we decorated.

some classics included:
"you have a tiny *****"
"slut"
"you suck"
"eat me"
"bite me"

and a LOT more WAY raunchy ones, some of which included drawings of anatomy - it was a BLAST! i kept it simple, just pink, red and white frosting, black, white, red & pink tubed frosting for writing and sprinkles.

not sure how healthy my recipe is, but if you want it, i can post it.

I will have to pass these on to the group at their meeting tonight!

I promise to take pictures and post about it after the big event. I hope it raises lots of money!

Keep the ideas coming!

Round shapes such as Coconut macaroons w/ the coconut tinted blue. Or, Mexican Divorce (wedding) cakes w/ the powdered sugar tinted the same blue .

Sell them in pairs.

Or is this too, too tasteless? :o

That reminds me of the old Saturday Night Live skit with Alec Baldwin and his Schweddy Balls.

What about cupcakes, frosted and then decorated with a big red frosting/icing heart drawn on top. Then, stab a plastic knife in the heart.

"Why is there a holiday that shares its initials with a sexually transmitted disease?"

And on that note, how about something that says "Happy Venereal Disease!"

How about Brittle Hearts-- peanut brittle in heart shapes? You buy it to break it.
Mini pinata-doll; little cardboard people you hit with a stick to get at the goodies inside. Or bleeding heart cupcakes-- make molten cupcakes, but have the filling tinted with some red coloring paste (standard food coloring dyes everything, those pastes are more controllable-- which, considering the holiday, may be a reason to use the more nasty red stuff!)
or for those who are unfortunately stuck with someone, at least this year, you may want to figure out how to make bum-cakes, shaped as named, inscribed with: My Boyfriend is an a$$, or My Girlfriend is an a$$!.

just some suggestions.

I'm thinking something voodoo inspired... Gingerbread men with strategically placed pins?

And on that note, how about something that says "Happy Venereal Disease!"

Happy VD works for that. And can be nice or naughty.

Oh, Bethany, I'm liking that idea... how about a "Valentine Voodoo" kit with a gingerbread cutout decorated with a scared face, a toothpick for strategic jabbing, and some kind of clever business-size card with instructions for strategic eating ("for maximum suffering, eat hands and feet first...").

For some reason I keep thinking of frog-shaped cookies, green frosting, and "NOT a Prince!" written across the top.

I'm also thinking lemon/lime cookies - you know, bitter. ;)

I love this one, too! Now, to find a frog-shaped cookie cutter!

Okay, sorry for just now getting back to this thread. I had forgotten (actually misplaced) my camera for the event, so a student took the pictures. Well, it was new, and she didn't know how to work it, so she ended up accidentally deleting them...our only visual of the event.

They really put a lot of thougth and effort into their treats. There were black licorice roses that yes a student and her mom made (and yes, these is a college-aged crowd). There were heart shaped cookies with funny sayings "Bite Me" etc. And there were some cookies that were anatomically correct and/or had racier sayings that were kept in a box and could be viewed upon request.

Someone made the voodoo cookies as mentioned here. They were really cute.

All in all it was a great success, and we sold more than we ever had. I know they will be talking about that for some time.

Thanks for all the ideas!
