We are having my parents over for dinner next weekend for their 41st Anniversary. I have my dinner menu all planned but I have been toying with idea of making them a "mini" wedding cake for dessert. Those dang Food Network Wedding Cake Contest shows started it all! :D
So, can I just make a two-tier cake with a standard yellow cake recipe? Will the top layer be thick enough? I wanted to avoid buying any new pans if possible (trying to save for our wedding!). Could I just make two 8-inch cakes, but cut a smaller circle out of one of them for the top? Or maybe a square cake?
Calling all bakers! Please help!
I think my parents would love this idea, they didn't have a very formal wedding, in fact I don't even think they had a cake!
Thanks in advance for the help!
