i have a wedge of a brie-type cheese in my refrigerator, which i bought 2 weeks ago for company, but our get-together was postponed until this weekend. is the cheese still good? i haven't unwrapped it to smell or anything, but it -looks- ok... any info appreciated!

I had a circle of brie that was 1 month old past the expiration date, but was never opened. And it was fine when I used it. You shouldn't have to worry.

It's fine. If it looks fine and smells fine, dont' worry. Even if there is a little bit of mold on it, just cut it off and enjoy the remainder. At least that's what I've always done, and I've never gotten sick (and I don't have a strong stomach)!

The French say a cheese is not ready till it can walk off the table by itself...and they don't refrigerate many of their cheeses!

They say soft cheese should be tossed once mold grows on it, but I have to believe the French know more about cheese than the USDA  :D

Brie will get stronger as it ages. When freshly made it has an almost rubbery consistency. Later it gets soft. Generally you want to wait until the brie is somewhat soft before eating....smell it and taste it and decide for yourself. Bet it'll be fine

It only lasts about 2 hours in my house :-)

2 weeks is definitely not too old for cheese. As long as it's wrapped well, it probably wont' even have funky growth on the edges.
