I posted a thread earlier but I just went to click on it to bump it up, and it's blank. No wonder nobody posted. This season is drawing the highest ratings ever, they say, so surely there must still be fans on the board.
What I was saying in the other thread is that I am usually rooting for some contestants at this point of the game to make it to the finals. This year, they seem to be concentrating more on the "bad" singers for ratings. Except for a couple of the younger girls, who are both eitehr 16 or 17, there aren't too many they have focused on that can really sing.
Also, that young cowboy from Wyoming - although I am thrilled that they gave him an opporunity to leave his farming town (population of 4 or 5 I remember him saying), and to see Hollywood, I don't think that he is really all that good. Is it my ears, or can he really sing and I am just not hearing it. I mean, he is far from the worst, but I can't see him making it to the final 12 (or whatever number they are going with this year).

I've been watching some, but not regularly yet. Don't have any particular comments yet but thought I'd let you know that I'm watching too. :)

We are watching as well---
I don't think the cowboy will get far, but I sure enjoy watching him in Holleywood.
I'm a bit tired of the twins who made it pontificating about who should get through, etc.
It should be interesting, as usual!

The ones that made it through won't be going far as one was in jail recently and the other was supposed to turn himself in. It was in regards to check fraud or something to do with a car purchase from last summer. Here's the story from CNN.

My DD's and I are watching and we're really enjoying it. This is our first season to watch. The girl that is maybe 17 with the sweet little voice when she speaks is such a good singer. We like her alot. I'm sure he won't make it to the end, but the little cowboy is just precious to watch!!

Wow!
Thanks for passing that along.
I guess they won't make it to the top 24!

If you mean Paris, I completely agree. She sounds phenomenal, and she seems sooooo sweet. I like her alot.
I also really like the dorky-looking kid who looks like he's about 12 (short with blond hair and glasses). I can't remember his name but he also seems like a sweet kid.
I am really rooting for a guy to win this season.

American Idol is my sweet mindless escape after a crazy day at work. I love it, especially when we get down to business and leave the scary auditions behind. I really like the young girl--19?, younger? she had been raised by a grandparent because her father was in prison. A voice, and a story that tug at your heart.
The guy who sang and danced with Paula (who later discovered that he was married) had a great voice too.
The young cowboy is getting a chance to see Hollywood, nothing more than that.
Can't wait to see how it all evolves.

I'll bet at least one of them has, and then they have to make the dramatic announcement that he is being replaced. They're certainly being edited in a negative way (for good reason).

He was cut last night - his performance in the Hollywood round was pretty mediocre.

We're watching too. I am so tired of all the features on the bad singers...gets old fast, IMO.
So far I do really like the two little 16/17 yr old girls. And I liked the guy who was a funeral home director that sang "You Raise Me Up" in the auditions. I don't recall seeing him in the Hollywood round last night though. We also like the guy who is kind of a rocker...shaved head and goatee maybe?...his wife was saying how much he'd given up to be a father to her kids, etc. I think he made it through last night.
And I can't decide about Kelly Pickler (is that her name?). Amazing story of growing up without parents and she's cute/peppy, but I wonder if she's got the vocal strength to make it. But I can't help but root for her.
Lastly, the farm boy is so sweet. Brings tears to my eyes to see how grateful he seems to be for just having made it to Hollywood. I think the show needs more of that stuff! Having said that, I don't think he'll make it through Hollywood week.

Yes, it is Paris. I think she'll do great.

Paris is my pick to win the whole enchilada! I watch Idol with my youngest DD, it's our "tradition" to watch it, as well as Tuesday night Gilmore Girls, which requires some pretty slick remote action!
It's funny to watch the guys flirt with Paula. I guess since the story was out (true or not?) that she had a fling with one of the previous contestants, they are considering this a strategy.
Simon and Randy make me laugh with some of their comments. Not when Simon get too nasty though.
Watching this show is like eating cotton candy. There is no substance to it, but it's fun for a little while. :D

Same for me and my younger daughters - we love both shows. I have watched Idol since season 2. I also think that for these tryouts they have focused too much on those that can't sing and are just plain weird - but that won't stop me watching :D . I think I would have preferred it if they had featured some of the great singers who got through, and kept the "other stuff" for a special.

Same here. This is the first time I have watched from the beginning, but DH and the kids started watching it last season and I eventually got drawn in. I enjoy watching the successful ones and hearing the feedback they get. I don't mind a little of the "other stuff", but there is too much of that and not enough of the real singers this time. I know it will eventually get down to the ones who really have a voice, but I like to see others who were pretty darn good, even if they won't go all the way. (Like the cowboy.)

Our family started watching it last year. The only drawback -- my sons both were very into Bo and wanted to grow their hair like him (at 8 & 10). I told them they needed to wait until high school to grow it -- and also needed to COMB IT every day! My kids don't seem to get as into the "audition" shows. I wish there would be a better mix of good & semi-good vs. horrid in the auditions -- they let the horrid ones go on way too long. I do like the funny song montages of the bad ones, but it seems to be the same people that we already saw.
My DH and I have also pegged Paris to win it. She is sensational.
I also like:
- Kelly Pickler
- the gray haired bluesy sounding guy
- the rocker guy with the skinny facial hair who has the emotional wife
- the little cowboy (although I doubt he'll get very far)
I can't stand the heavy twin guys, but I'm sure some of that is in the editing of the show. The younger twins were good looking and pretty good vocally --I'll bet they'll be back in future years.
I'm glad AI is winding up as "Dancing with the Stars" is winding down, or I'd be watching way too much TV!

Thanks for reminding me of him. I really like him. He is one of my early favorites.

Does anyone find it a bit unfair that AI profiles some singers early on allowing folks like you and me to develop favorites? Then those that have not been profiled don't have a fan base from these early shows. I guess it's one way AI can help "control" the ultimate outcome.

I remember that being a big complaint last season, but you don't get to the Top 12 without talent, and it's not until then that the general public gets to start voting. I think once they're that far, it's their talent that carries them. Look at Bo Bice - he didn't get profiled at all last year before the Top 12, and he finished second. As compared to Constantine, who was getting tons of air time from the very beginning.
