After all this talk here about Pirate's Booty, I was determined to hunt it down. But since we don't have Trader Joe's where I live, I thought I was out of luck. In comes a new supermarket- Hannaford- with its wonderful selection of natural and healthy snacks and what do I find on the shelf? Well shiver me timbers, it was Pirate's Booty! I'm almost sorry I did find it because I can see it becoming a very scary addiction for my DH and I! I love it- it's like Smartfood but without all the fat and no kernals to get stuck in your teeth! Thanks BBers (I think) for getting me hooked.

Please - someone tell me what exactly is this highly-recommended snack?!?

They convinced me, too, Andrea, that my life experience thus far was incomplete without this luscious snack item! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif So, the last time DH and I went to Atlanta, we found some and purchased a couple of bags - only 2 .... just to be SURE!

Well, it was love at first crunch! DH and I just came back from the theatre, where we saw the three hour movie, Pearl Harbor, and what did I pack to take with us but Pirate's Booty! It beat all those pricey, high fat items they sell all to pieces.

It's the first thing on my shopping list for my NEXT Atlanta trip!

Jogren, Pirate's Booty is a baked corn and rice snack covered in a powdery aged white cheddar cheese. The best way I can describe it is visually it looks like popped popcorn. Tastewise it reminds me of the old-fashioned baked 'Cheetos' cheese puffs, but not fried! This snack tastes sinful but the only way it can produce guilt is if you inhale two bags in one sitting...
in which case I guess that means I'm on my way to being very guilty! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif

Very low calorie, low fat, low sodium, low sugar. I've seen it in several stores for $2.79 per bag, but I get it at TJ's for $1.69 per bag! I'm also not embarrassed when I buy 10 bags at a time. No one seems to look at me twice in there, so they must be used to it! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

AndreaU--funny you should mention it, but I had been meaning to write a post along these same lines, because I just *experienced* Pirate's Booty for the first time on Tuesday! We don't have Trader Joe's here in SLC either, but I found it at a little import store called (appropriately enough) Pirate O's that's just a few blocks from my house! I told the guy at the store that I had heard all about Pirate's Booty, and he said it is their best seller. I was cautious at first and only bought a tiny bag, but I can't wait to go back and get more! They also had Fruity Booty and Veggie Booty and Smart Puffs, so now I get to try those too. I was so excited!

I am 80% certain I've seen this stuff at Whole Foods. I haven't tried it before, but I see I'll have to now. In the interests of scientific research, you understand.

I have also found it at Jamba Juice outlets. I liked it so much I went to the web site and tried to order a case. When I found out the shipping was going to be $7.50 I cancelled my order! I'm finding out that you are penalized (monetarily) a lot when having things shipped to Hawaii. I guess I'll just have to hit Jamba Juice and buy as many small bags as they have on hand, still cheaper than paying all that shipping.

I call Pirate's Booty "Jax for the health conscious"- yummy! And your fingers get covered with white cheese instead of neon orange so you can be a little more inconspicuous too.

You have all convinced me to try this! I just found out there is a TJ's by my parent's house so it seems like it's time for a visit!

I too finally found Pirate's Booty at the Whole Foods by my house this past weekend. This stuff was awesome!! My DH and I ate the whole bag! So I went back the next day to get some more and there was none left!! I couldn't believe it! It was 2.29 a bag so I only bot one the first time. But next time I'll know better!!!!!

I just came back from Bread and Circus with 2 bags. It is $2.29 a bag there. Kim, I think it is probably a bigger bargain ordering online by the case.
I love it but I have a daughter (not Valerie) that thinks it looks and tastes like packing peanuts. I am not sure when she has been eating packing peanuts to compare them.

Another new addict here. After reading the last thread about Pirates Booty and seeing Rosie O'Donnel go on and on about the stuff, I had to try it. At first I found it at Ellwood Thompsons (a natural foods store here) and then low and behold my local grocery store started carrying it. Thank God for Ukrops Grocery. Only problem is that they always run out. I was actually thinking about ordering a case but is the shipping that high for all orders? Need to know, our stash is running low here.

mariakj, I ordered it online and don't remember paying any shipping at all. It looked like BonusWife had an issue because she's wanting it shipped to Hawaii. I'm not sure, but it's worth checking out the website. I truly don't recall paying shipping and handling for mine which I was surprised about.

Maizeyoats,
Packing peanuts are exactly what my brother compared Pirate's Booty to! He said they remind him of the ones that are really light and dissolve in water.

I tried to convence my Whole Foods that others carried it and they should order it or I would get it straight from the company....well, got tired of waiting, and Im sure it is a better value! I ate 1/2 bag when it came (luckily 1/2 bag is only 2 servings!)

Note for people ordering Pirate's Booty from the website. As I understood it the only way that they charge you shipping is if you live out of the continental United States, i.e., Hawaii or Alaska. Kind of a rip off if you ask me. They won't be getting my business when they charge $7.50 for shipping. It doesn't cost them anymore to ship to Hawaii than it does to ship to say California. I guess they could also tell you that when you place the order instead of waiting until they get your credit card number and then waiting two weeks and calling you on the phone. I'm still waiting for them to credit my credit card for the original order.
