Yes, there is a connection. Doug Crichton was the Editor of CL until May when he moved to Health.

I have a good friend that works at Southern Living (a sister publication of CL). This is what she told me:
Health was bought out by Southern Progress (the parent company) and all the employees were offered jobs under the condition that they re-locate from San Francisco to Birmingham. None of them accepted.
I live in Birmingham (and love it) - but I have visited SF and completely understand why they would not want to leave. What a beautiful place!
So, they have hired an entirely new staff for Health - at least that is my understanding - including the former CL editor.
That's the scoop!

I knew you guys would know the answer!
I wonder if they need anyone else on their production staff....
On second thought, I'm not a warm weather girl!

I am a recent subscriber of Health Magazine, and I thoroughly enjoy the issues I've read so far (much better than Shape in my opinion). The From the Editor poriton in the June issue announced they are moving their operation from San Francisco to Birmingham, Alabama. Anyone know of a connection to CL? Is Birmingham becomming the mecca of health enthusiasts?
On the down side, the Editor said that the staff would not be moving (herself included). I guess they are going to hire all new people in Birmingham (how odd). I hope the magazine doesn't change too much.
I was just curious if anyone had any ideas as to why Birmingham? It will now be home to two nationally distributed magazines about healhty living.

valeriek, I'm also a subscriber to Health and read that same letter just a few days ago. I was very surprised and was wondering the same thing as to why they were moving the production of the magazine from SF to Birmingham. I wasn't sure if it was just the editor that was staying behind or the whole staff. I had the same thoughts that I hope the move doesn't change the format too much if at all. I'm a new subscriber and have enjoyed it so far. We shall see... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
