I am not a fan of frozen entrees ( I think the Lean Cuisine Spa Cuisines are good but I don't eat meat), but I like some of the Amy's Organics and Cedar Lane products. I just saw that Cedar Lane had a new line of entrees that follow the Zone diet...I was intrigued as they are all whole foods, organic, etc and vegetarian. They were on sale at King Soopers so I tried them and I have to say that I think they are very, very, good!

So far, I just love the spinach mushroom omelet, the vegetable enchiladas, the pizzas...all just delicious!

Has anyone else tried these?

I've tried the cheese enchiladas. They are very good, but I have a hard time believing the calorie count is accurate.

Can they do that?! :(

They're not supposed to, but I've read plenty of articles about things being falsely labeled. The cheese enchiladas I like say that each enchilada has something like 140 calories, which just sounds very low for a cheese enchilada.

One thing to look at is serving size. For example, I know that the Amy's enchiladas come two to a package, but the nutrition info is for ONE enchilada. It's not inaccurate but is misleading, as most frozen entrees of that size are meant to be a single serving. You have to look closely to catch the fine print.

There have been inaccuracies in other foods, though, and that IS illegal. Remember the Pirate's Booty scandal of a few years ago?

I am referring to blatant inaccuracy, not people's inability to read labels ;). The Pirate's Booty scandal is a good example.

Which is not to say Cedar Lane isn't 100% truthful, it just seems impossible for one enchilada in a rich tasting tomato based sauce to be that low in calories. The cheese is too smooth and perfectly melted to be low fat. Then again, maybe they know a secret. Of course, if they do, how come Stouffer's hasn't done the same thing and made cheese enchiladas under 300 calories? I pretty much trust that Stouffers/Lean Cuisine will be truthful, but I don't always trust the smaller labels.

I love those enchiladas too! The ingredient list includes both nonfat and regular cheddar, with the nonfat higher up in the list. I always wondered how they could be so much better than other lowfat entrees. I'm choosing to believe because I like them so much!

The three-layer enchilada pie is also good, and the burrito with green chile sauce (the latter has more calories and fat, though).

LOL! Me too.

I think these frozen food companies are allowed a 30% variance, so each enchilada could be about 180 calories rather than 140. Since there are two servings per box, the total would be 360 rather than 280. So I just count it as 360. Either way, 360-400 calories per serving is pretty good for cheese enchiladas.
