I am looking for window treatments for my kitchen. It's colors are primarily blue and white, with splashes of color from my mermaid collection. I love the vintage look as well. Any suggestions?

Are you looking for decorative or functional treatments?

Well, I didn't know window treatments had a function, to tell you the truth! I'm decorating-challanged, so I guess I'm looking for something that just looks nice and isn't so see thru that someone could still look thru the window. Which I guess, now that I think about it, would be a function.
I have this tiny butler's-pantry-type space (no sink). It houses the fridge and I'd like to put a little table and a chair there for a little relaxing spot. This is my ultimate goal- a corner of calm.

I have blinds and a fabric swag thrown over an exposed decorative wood rod. The blinds allow me to filter the light any way I want and give me total privacy. The decorative swag is easy because you can go to any fabric store and get almost any fabric to throw over the rod and it will look good. Because it is just fabric you can easily pull it off the rod and throw it in the washing machine. This can be done very inexpensively.

The attached photo is not my house but it gives you the idea of how easy it is to do and how good it looks. This is decorative however. You will need blinds or a shade.

Do you have a picture of the area you're looking to spruce up? Be nice to see it to get ideas.

What about a cafe curtain? Typically they are hung on the lower half of the window but for me privacy's not an issue and I like to display stuff on the sill so I have them up top.

All you need is a tension rod and some cafe hooks available at any craft store or Home Depot/Lowe's; my 'curtains' are actually tea towels I got for $2 a pair. You can buy 'real' cafe curtains too, Pottery Barn had some nice blue & white ones a while back but of course they are pricier.

Thanks All! The Cafe curtain is more the look I'm going for, although the swag is something I've been wanting to try in my bedroom. I wish I had a picture, but I can't find the computer cords for the digital camera. Maybe I'll take a before and after and upload it when I find the equipment!
Great suggestions and thanks for including examples.

to get some ideas, you might like to take a look at Country Curtains; i've been buying from them for 25 years and they have a wonderful selection, some of which currently is similar to what you're describing. their website is very user-friendly.
