View Full Version : A REAL dumb question...
When a recipe ie. Mostaccioli-Spinach Bake calls for 8oz of pasta- how many cups is that? It couldn't be just one cup of dry pasta could it?? Oh I am getting myself confused (doesn't take much!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Usually when a recipe calls for an amount of pasta like that, I would look at the weight on the box of pasta that I have. For example, the mostaccoli that I buy comes in a 1 pound box. A pound is 16 oz, so, 8 oz would be 1/2 of the box.
Does that help?? Not a dumb question! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Thanks Lara- that does kind of help- of course here in Canada our packages are in grams!! Also what if you have pasta in a bag- say bought in bulk- I sound like the kids I teach!!

I usually weigh my pasta on a kitchen scale so I have the correct amount. It really matters what type of pasta as some are heavier than others. They won't all be the same in measure, but they will in weight.
Thanks chefbec, that is a great idea and one that I hadn't thought of before.

1 pound = 16 oz
1 pound = 454 g
therefore
8 oz = 227g
