What are your favorite things to eat when the weather gets steamy?
Other than the obvious fresh produce (tomatoes, berries, and melon) I love gazpacho, guacamole, cold yogurt soups, and pesto made with fresh basil from the garden. And of course, turkey Hill mint chocolate cookie frozen yogurt!

Fresh cherries or frozen grapes. And sunflower seeds, at any time of year!
More watermelon, frozen juice bars, and Blue Bell ice cream (the National Ice Cream of Texas for those less fortunate).

I just discovered frozen grapes last year! Richard Simmons used to always say they were a great summer snack but I always turned up my nose, 'cause I never liked grapes! (Don't do it Sandy...I've had a problem with fresh fruits and veggies all my life! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif ) As soon as I froze them I loved them!
Now that I've discovered them I also think I'll be making a lot of smoothies this summer. I also LOVE popsicles, especially the 'All Fruit' kind...raspberry! Yum! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

DH and me were so excited to see fresh cherries at the grocery. We are going camping this week and picked up a big bag. This is the easiest way to eat cherries, no being dainty eating cherries when you can just spit 'em the fire pit! (I know, I am easily amused!)

I get the ice cream crazies as soon as the weather warms up! My favorite that I love to share it Grapenut ice cream. The two fabulous "real" homeade ice cream places here in RI have it (The Ice Cream Machine and Brickley's) but I also make it at home by adding a little cinnamon and grapenuts to lowfat frozen yogurt. Also great with chocolate jimmies (sprinkles to you non-New Englanders) on top. Yum!

Watermelon. Watermelon, watermelon, and watermelon. Oh, and watermelon.
Being in Michigan, it's hard not to find cherries here, and I love 'em.
Am I the only one who likes those silly frozen popcicle sticks? They used to be called Mr. Freeze - I don't know what they are. Blue is my favorite. They're in the long plastic sleeve, and they're just like popcicles.
Of course there's the ice cream thing...... and Ritter's (a frozen custard joint) just opened a shop in town..........eesh........

Fresh strawberries! Pick-your-own at the local farm market should start sometime within the next week and I'm ready! They're only in season up here for a few short weeks so I eat like mad, then freeze the rest.
And on a hot summer evening, a small chocolate cone at the local DQ http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif.

As white-trash as it is, I love Jello with fruit in the hot summer.

Yes! Freeze pops or something. I do love those. You get like 300 for $0.99!!
But mostly in the summer I love grapes, srawberries, fresh garden tomatoes with feta cheese on top, fresh cucumbers with balsamic vinegar.......
I could go on and on!

My new favorite treat is those Yoplait Expresse yogurt tubes. When you put them in the freezer, they make the best treat! My favorite flavors are the key lime and lemon. They have 70 calories each and 1.5 g of fat, and some calcium too. Better for me than an ice cream sandwich, and just as satisfying!

I also love the Yoplait tubes- I buy them for my kids instead of that hideous Go-gurt with all the food coloring and gross flavors. The peach is my favorite! But watch out -- I was squeezing one in my mouth as a snack while driving to pick up the kids, and my hand sort of slipped and I squirted yogurt all over the car and my hair!

You said it, Sandy! I love standing on the back deck, my belly against the railing, slurping up watermelon & p-tooing the seeds into the backyard as my cheeks drip with juice. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif Creamsicles are also a summertime favorite with me & does anyone remember Dixie cups? I love 'em, right down the little wooden paddle-shaped spoon.

My favorite is definitely watermelon!! Last year i was eating an entire watermelon myself in 2 to 3 days!! After a couple weeks I noticed my feet started swelling to the point I couldn't get my shoes on. I made an appointment with my doctor and we reviewed my diet. He asked me if I was eating an abundance of anything. When I told him he said watermelon does contain salt and eating that much was just TOO much salt intake???? Who knew!!!

Freezer Pops here! Also fresh fruit. If you love frozen grapes then you must also try frozen cherries. We buy them by the pounds when the price is down to 99 cents a pound. Its like eating cherry sorbet and so freshing just like the grapes. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Hi Amanda,
I know exactly what you're talking about, but we called 'em "Skippy Cups". Took my husband back to NY one weekend to visit the family, and he and my best friend's DH went for a walk. Asked if we wanted anything. Dawn Marie said "Please bring back some Skippy Cups for us!" My DH looked at her like she had 3 heads. Wonder if it's a regional thing. And the wooden spoon....well, it's an acquired taste http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I'm just getting out my blender for my first smoothie of the season...not sure if this qualifies as a snack.
Also, melon chunks of any kind. Just had a delicious muskmelon last week. Mmmm.
Then there's ice cream. Love it, but have a hard time with it being in my house. I get it when I'm out with the kids and love it. At home I have switched to Fudgsicles -- gives me my fill of chocolate/ice cream, but only 60 calories!
