Just wondering what everyone else uses to keep their skin looking as good as possible?

I usually use Eucerin with an SPF. But other than that, I don't use much.

You'll get a wide range of answers to this one, I am sure.

I have been using Lancome products for about 20 years (I am 42 and have been told I look younger). I have very dry skin and have always had to moisturize for that reason, so I use a variety of their different skin and eye products. FWIW - I don't have wrinkles - might be because of the products, or because I avoid the sun, or genetics, or a combo of.

My dermatologist tells me that staying out of the sun and not smoking are the best ways to prevent wrinkles. I also use makeup and moisturizer with sunscreen.

One of the biggest things that people miss is hydration.

Your skin needs water to replenish itself. Use a moisturizing base foundation that has sunscreen. If not, then put a minimum of spf 15 on your face before your makeup. And drink lots of water!

What is water? Well water is water. It's not coffee, even though it's made with water. It's not tea or koolaid or lemonade. It's not gatorade or powerade. It's just water. If you're a heavy coffee drinker you need twice as much to replace what your body looses because of the coffee. Same for tea and coke.

You'll find your skin looks better and feels better. :)

The only way to prevent wrinkles is to stay out of the sun (or use a heavy-duty sunscreen, liberally and frequently applied) and not smoke or engage in other substance abuse. Even then, sooner or later, aging will catch up with you.

Moisturizers, staying hydrated, etc. can plump up the skin and -- as the advertisment say -- "reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles." But moisturizers will not prevent wrinkles from forming.

Someone gave me a tube of Strivectin so I did my own test and put it under one and not the other for a month. Saw really big results so Im a believer.

Drink tons of water, take plenty of Vitamin C, get plenty of sleep, and use Nivea CoQ10 moisturizers. I also am complimented by being told I look younger than my 48 years.

Sunscreen, every day since I was 25. I really believe sunscreen is the most important thing for keeping wrinkles at bay.

i was very, very fortunate to be introduced to Nivea products in france at 17. i have religiously used the oil around my eyes after washing/showering ever since. 50+ and no crows' feet, but i've also long made a habit of wearing sunglasses outdoors, year round. (i do have a brow furrow, and that's a genetic tendency/unbreakable habit, but i don't fret over it.)personally, i don't avoid the sun; i'm in it in my garden April-Oct., and i love a tan. but! i'm also a firm believer in the natural body oils that we are born with.

i part company with many and don't over-wash. i truly belive that much of the skin-care and moisturizer market is driven by the american obession with washing, washing, washing constantly. it's harmful to many persons with very pale, very thin and dry skin, including children. it also wreaks havoc on hair. people wouldn't need conditioner if they stopped shampooing every single day.

I have started using a lotion with sunscreen SPF 15 in winter and summer. But, not to hijack the thread, I am having problems with breakouts. I was told that using a SPF on skin prone to breaking out will cause more acne. Has anyone dealt with this? Other than covering my face constantly to prevent sundamage is there a specific lotion/creme I could use?

Becky,

I saw a dermatologist last week about my acne. I am 28 and have suffered since puberty, this is my first try with a dr to resolve. She said I should wear sunscreen, especially since 2 of the medications make me more sensitive to sun and I spend a lot of time at a very high altitude (10,000 ft). The key is to find one that is non-comodegenic (sp?). So, I use Cetaphil lotion recommended by her and then Bare Essentials make up which is spf 15. In addition, when skiing I add an spf 30 gel and Dermatone to prevent wind burn which is 23.

Good luck, its a frustrating problem!
Robyn

I use a moisturizer and SPF 15 daily, following a gentle, exfoliating cleanser. And I use special cremes around my eyes -- mostly preventative, as I'm only 27. (All Mary Kay brand.)

I have good skin genes! :) My Mother is 78 and everyone is always saying what nice skin she has and how lucky I am to have inherited it. Too bad that can't be bottled! :D

It really depends on your skin type. I have normal/combination skin, very pale and am 32. In the last 2 years I've noticed a difference in how my skin responds to products. I use L'Occitane Immortelle line, with the exception of of the cleanser, which I use the L'Occitane olive face cleasner. I've been following this routine since September and it's made a noticable difference. Mainly to protect against wrinkles, it's staying out of the sun and using SPF on your face daily. However popular it looks, any type of tan is a sign of skin damage.

I agree with you (again)! My skin is very dry and getting dryer as my hormones keep getting out of wack. I just found Clinique Superdefense cream for very dry skin. It has an SPF 25 then I wear BE with an SPF 15 most days. At night if my skin feels really dry, I use more of the Superdefense cream. If my skin feels pretty normal, I use the Dramatically Different lotion. (free gift with purchase) I don't wash my face twice a day. It doesn't get that dirty, and water just dries it out even more. I have deep forehead lines, so I use Aveda Firming Fluid a few times a week at night. The product lasts forever and makes the lines almost invisible. I know it's vanity to obsess about this at my age, but they really are deep and look weird when you have no wrinkles anywhere else. I'm dilligent about wearing sunglasses outside. I also use a glycolic skin wash from MD Formulations once or twice a week to remove any dry spots/sun damage areas since I lived at the beach when I was kid. I also drink lots of water. I am 28, but I have tried to use good sunscreens and moisturizers since I was 18. For extra SPF I use L'Occitane Face and Body Balm with Shea Butter SPF 30. It is really creamy and goes on thick. For normal days I only wear sunscreen on my face. The little bit of my arms that might be uncovered allow me to naturally get vitamin D. In the summer I put on sunscreen.

I use cetaphil cleanser, lotion, and cream. WHich lotion I use depends on the season. They have one w/ spf 15 that is harsh for me for daily use, but ok several times a week. There is a lotion that is slightly heavier and an even heaavier cream.

I have acne prone skin and have been using Cetaphil since high school. I occasionally try other products, but always come back to this. I also use Differin for acne and it helps with the overall condition of my skin as well.

Very timely thread! I've been thinking about switching lotions & maybe investing more.

How much do you guys spend on moisturizers?

There's a great product called "Freeze 24/7" which instantly relaxes your forehead muscles and helps get rid of frown lines. Nordstrom sells it, but you can also find it on eBay. It's really the next best thing to Botox. It's especially nice for those of us who want instant gratification ;).

Obviously, you need to use it in conjuction with a good skincare routine. There are so many incredibly good lines on the market, you kind of have to go with what works for you. I think everyone's skin responds a little differently.

But back to serious wrinkles, if you can't afford botox or want to extend your treatment, Freeze 24/7 is great.

Freeze 24/7 (http://www.freeze247.com/shopnow.cfm)

Keep in mind, it seems expensive, but you only use a tiny bit every day. One bottle should last for many months.

That's spooky. What's IN it???

I use usually a Nivea lotion with sunscreen in it because I feel I have to (I think I'm using the CoQ10 one now) with occasional switches to Aveeno or Neutrogena; I start to react to anything I use for too long. But honestly, that's really because my skin feels so dry all the time. I'm not that bothered about wrinkles...

I tried that fancy three-step Olay thing once for a week at my mother's (she had a free sample). It made pretty much the entire surface of my forehead peel off!

I'm turning... is it 37 this year? and I got carded at the liquor store a few weeks ago. I think I inherited my mother's skin though (along with most of the rest of her genes). She's one of those women who certainly has not got beautiful with age, but she sort of hit a look in her late forties and hasn't much changed since, except to get a bit greyer. I look forward to being a short and homely peasant woman of uncertain but authoritative age who can say whatever she wants.... :p

I don't believe in the "one solution fits all" theory. If I didn't wash my hair everyday, OMG, it's so awful. People don't believe me when I tell them how greasy I am. They all tell me it's because I wash too often. It's just not true. I go without washing it when I'm at home sometimes, and definitely when I'm sick. It's so awful you wouldn't believe it. No amount of leaving it alone helps. It's just greasier and greasier and greasier. Same with my face. It's just genetics. I have it from both sides of my family.

The upside is I have very few wrinkles! That natural oil has protected me I think from that. I have to be very, very vigilant about exfoliating, moreso than trying to get rid of the oil. Zits happen when the oil gets trapped under the dead skin. So if I scrub really well once a day to remove all the dead skin cells, the oil doesn't get trapped and I don't get too zitty, although I still have homonal breakouts that I can't do much about.

As for what cream I use, I LOVE Neutrogena's Pore Refining Cream with SPF15, Retinol and Alpha-Hydroxy Acid Formula. It's in a little tube and costs about $15. So good at getting rid of and keeping away those little fine lines. And it helps me with my exfoliation (the alpha hydroxy part) so my skin looks clearer and brighter and fresher. I also use BE makeup, which I also think has improved my complexion. It doesn't irritate and clog my HUGE pores, so it doesn't make me break out either.

Turn on your sound and click here (http://www.freeze247.com/technology3.cfm). This nice young man will explain it to you. :D

It's a "natural" muscle relaxant.

This is my fate :D I'm praying for looking more like my mom (athletic/healthy weight) than my grandma and aunt (heavy but gorgeous).

Before my mom got all gray (she's 56 and has really gotten more salt than pepper only the last year), I swear people always thought we were sisters. We both have this peasant sort of baby face with pretty fair and blemish free skin.

So my only regiment is tons of water and Lush "afterlife" moisturizer and "geisha" face soap..that's when I remember   Most of the times it's just a splash of bubbly water from the bath unless I'm washing off make up

My cover up/base is a liquid from MAC with SPF in it...also when I remember :)

Good genes! But I also have used Clinique 3-step program once a day since I was in college (30 years) and I know that I have great looking skin. I do use their eye cream as well and the total turnaround cream.

I have used various moisturizers and skin care regimes over the years and am told that with the occasional zit that my skin looks good for my age (46). I also credit it to my Mom and Grandmother's genes. About a month ago, I started using the Mary Kay microdermabrasion kit and am happy with it. It is kind of expensive but it lasts almost a year.

LOL! If we were all professional models, we could use that, too. Then we'd have perfect skin & insanely thin thighs. And tans with no lines or freckles. But then we'd have no real character, eh? :-)

I am fairly wrinkle free in my late 40's (w/ only a dozen or so grey hairs too - but that's another thread). I inherited my mother's oily skin so that probably helps alot. I'm going to go against the grain (as usual) and say I think a moderate amount of sun is good for skin & health.

Even though I'm oily, I use a homemade recipe of olive oil, coconut oil & vitamine E oil for morning cleansing and night cleansing is w/ a homemade olive oil bar soap (made w/ lye  ) I rarely wear foundation (B.E. if I do) and am told that I can get away w/ that since I have such nice skin.

I am noticing that I need to think about sloughing - I'd like something natural since my skin has a tendency to react to alot of the products on the market.

That's why I welcome my wrinkles. Lots of character in them. LOL.
