OMG....is this what living in the Bayou City means (from a transplant?) We had to stay at a friends last night because we couldnt get home, but at 730 am we deicded to brave it (my kittys were alone) and we got home and had no damage! We feel very fortunate! I pray you all had the same fortune!

Kim,
Yes, bayous equal water! And to think Allison was only a tropical depression not a major hurricane!!! I'm 100 mile NW of you and we just got some rain last night 5" in 3 hours but we have a lot less concrete out here so no flooding. Be sure to get your hurricane survival kit going before the next one comes along...Nov 1 is a long way away!

Damp out here near Katy, no flooding. Boy, I sure feel for all those people who are flooded out. No going shopping today though, too many streets closed.

Amazingly enough everything is ok here. Water made it up into the yard, but car and house are thankfully undamaged. I've lived in Houston my whole life, and this is the worst flood I've ever seen.

We are high and (somewhat)dry in Cooperfield. I haven't tried any of the streets far from here. Glad everyone else seems to be ok.

We're north in The Woodlands. We are okay, but we had flooded streets around us. We drove around a little and saw homes with ripped out carpeting in areas that have never flooded. Got our propane tank filled so we can grill, just in case. They say we may have more heavy rain this afternoon, and I have been watching daark clouds and radar showing rain around us.
Although we've been up here only 2 1/2 yrs., I grew up and lived most of my life in the Houston area. This is the most widespread flooding I have ever seen here, but the scary part is that what is left of Allison is still circulating and moving toward the Gulf of Mexico. This could lead to the storm reorganizing and dumping more rain on areas that are already flooded. I cannot even imagine what we could be in for if that happens. That's where we REALLY need your thoughts, prayers, and dry air. Think if we all took a deep breath and blew we could push it far enough out to move north? 1-2-3----BLOW!

We still have our house inside the Loop in Braes Heights (between cities of Bellaire and West U). Got a call from my middle son's girlfriend, they live in Bellaire not far from Braes Bayou, they had 6" in the house! Our house is safe, thank goodness, difficult to sell when it's full of water!
I remember Alicia back in '84 did some major damage with water but she was over and done with, this storm just keeps hanging around!

We looked at a condo in the Heights yesterday and this morning the channel 11 chopper flew over the complex that was submerged in water up to the carports!!!!! We drove around to I10, Memorial drive and I59 taking pictures of the new bodies of water to email to our families in IN

I just spent the past hour and a half watching ch 13 news! This is unbelievable!!! Houston has never had this much water. And that poor woman who died in the elevator downtown! Prayers for all Houstonians are being said at our church tonight and tomorrow. With I-10 being closed we can't even get in to help!

My little sister lives in Kingwood and she is getting married on saturday. She was suppose to fly to SC yesterday(where the wedding is), but couldn't get to the airport! She said on the phone, "the bride is not pleased!"
Good luck to those of you from Houston. My thoughts are with you!
We have been sitting pretty high and drying out, looking at blue skied today. Yesterday was cloudy, hot and 100% humidity. YUK! We have not heard form one of our supper club members, so Susan, if you are okay, we hope you will have a moment to post or send one of us a note.
So many people are still trying to get to their homes, many downtown offices closed and parking garages still flooded. We were feeling so fortunate on Saturday that there had not been any reported deaths. Now there are at least 17 deaths and some people still missing. My sister her DH bought my dad's insurance agency, and the three of them are all busy handling claims....cars and trucks everywhere, homes, and the woman who drowned in the elevator dowtown...she was a high school friend of mine and a client of theirs.
I just got off the phone with my dad...her family is trying to retrieve her purse so they can get the keys to her house and car, deal with credit cards and such. The police took possession and it was with the homicide dept....anyone know where this is going? The homicide dept was flooded out. The can't get calls or info, don't know where anything is.
I already did spring cleaning (twice), but my boys and I are looking to see what else we can donate to those who have lost all there clothing, sheets, towels, pillows, toys. We also made a cash donation to the Red Cross.
You can help also by getting clothing, linens and cash donations to the American Red Cross
telephone: 1-800-HELP-NOW,
mail: Greater Houston Chapter of the American Red Cross
P.O. Box 201014
Houston, Texas 77216-1014
on-line at: www.khou.com (http://www.khou.com) and click on the flood relief icon.)
The last one listed is the CBS TV affiliate and a sister station of one I used to work for. They and the Houston Chronicle are working together with the Red Cross and are legit.
Stay dry, chins up, lend a hand if you can, send prayers if you can't.

Beth, I am so sorry about your friend.
Glad to hear everyone here is okay.
Aggie94, I'm almost suprised you've seen thos pictures. DH spent half a day at work and said he is hearing that outside of our area, no one seems to know what's going on here. The National Red Cross is not getting the donations and response it normally gets, which hurts twice....people usually respond both in preparation of a storm when we can watch a hurricane form and move in for a week or so, and then again when it hits and you see what is needed.

Beth,
You're right that it's not getting the attention that it needs. Until Sunday, I had no idea that there was really a crisis going on down there, which is why I hadn't called home earlier to check on people. I did have to open the paper up past the front page to see the "What's going on around the country" section to see those photos. Later last night, I also heard much more about the flooding on the World News, but until then, it was very much underplayed in these parts (except to the extent that other parts of the country might be affected by ATM outages -- SAD).

We actually heard about it in Alabama on the news and The Weather Channel. My GF in Phoenix, tho, hadn't but you can't count her. She doesn't watch TV or read the paper.
Channel 11 started a fund just for flood victims in Houston. If you don't earmark the fund for Houston, it goes into the general Red Cross fund.
The church got tons of donations but haven't heard much today.

I am sending lots of prayers and thoughts your way. Being in Oregon, I feel really far removed from this kind of stuff. When I woke up yesterday to the pictures in the paper of the flooding along I-10, I realized that it was time to call home and make sure my family was OK. Imagine my worry when I couldn't get through on the phone lines all day. I finally got a hold of my brother late last night, and he reported that he and my parents are fine -- the only damage that either of them got was the two feet of water that flooded my brother's one-month old car. But after seeing the reports on the news of other parts of town, he feels very lucky that that's all he's had to deal with. It could have been so much worse, and it has been for some people. He also said that this is the worst flooding he's seen in the 30 years he's been in Houston, even worse than Alicia in 1984.
