Sorry if this has been asked before--my internet connection is supremely slow right now, and it takes forever just to open a new page, so I decided to forgo the search...
I would like to send a gift basket to someone, preferably a nice assortment of coffees or something like that. Does anyone have suggestions for where to look? Starbuck's doesn't seem to do baskets.
Thanks

Hi Rebecca,
I think Southern Season's website (they are based in Chapel Hill NC- a number of BBers have also sung their praises) does a very good job. I have ordered from them, and sent gifts. Harry & David also has very attractive things, but they're more expensive- I think Southern Season gives more for your money. They often have internet specials.
I haven't ordered from Wolferman's but have their catalog and it looks really yummy, too.

Are you going to send it yourself or are you going to have the place you buy it from ship it?

beckms,
If you are going to ship or give the gift basket yourself I would recommend making one yourself. It is easy to do using a heat gun or hair dryer to shrink the clear plastic around the basket.
If you have a basket made for you, you will be limited to only the items that the store sells. If you make your own you can customize it by putting different items that you know the person will like. For example you can put a CD of that person's favorite music, a coffee mug, kitchen gadgets, Godiva chocolates, a book, and any other thing that you can think of.
Making a gift basket is as simple as putting decorative straw in a basket, filling it with goodies, sliding the basket into a shrink wrap bag, tying it off with a bow, then shrinking the wrap with a heat gun. The trick that you help you the most is to overfill the basket with decorative straw or shredded paper. You need to overfill the basket with paper so that whatever you put into to it will show up and look live it is overflowing the basket.
Shrink wrap bags can be purchased at craft stores or ordered online. (http://www.nu-era.com/giftbasket-supplies.asp) It is not difficult to get professional results doing it yourself.

Wow. I had no idea! :D Thanks Debie, for the tip. The next time you're there, would you mind picking up an ad and sending it to me? I'm still working my way through the yummy tea you brought in December.
A Southern Season is another.

A third vote for Southern Season - their baskets are very nice quality and reasonably priced. They look more expensive than they really are.

Just bumping this up as I received a catalog and it's full of great gift baskets - wine, coffee, chocolate, etc. I wanted to share the site since this is the time of year that baskets are popular gifts. I feel like sending myself one, they are so nice. I'm pretty sure this is the first time I have seen this catalog.

www.gevalia.com has some beautiful gifts of coffee. We were happy with the ones we sent a few years ago.
ETA Check out their "Hot Chocolate Christmas Crate" for non coffee drinkers ;)

Although it's not coffee, one of the girls at work received a basket from Edible Arrangements last week and it was just beautiful; they also have a full page add in the October Shape:

Try www.watkins.com, not for coffee but for all sorts of foods: spices, pepper, cinnamon, vanilla, etc.

Has anyone ever tried Wolferman's? Their catalog looks so good- they are very proud of those English Muffins- wondered if the actual thing lives up to the catalog!
