I just wanted to say that the best laugh I've had in days just came when I saw your avatar on another thread (the comment would have been totally inappropriate there, hence the new thread). I *loved* Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy and I've been laughing for a few minutes now (what can I say, it's been a stressful week  ). All I keep hearing now is his voice saying, "dear old dad of mine"! Thanks for the chuckle. :)

Ahhh, cartoons of the 1950's! :)

This is where I found the graphic
http://www.progressiveboink.com/archive/ihbfd.htm

Some hilarious (and some annoying) commentary on these cartoon characters makes this site fun. Mostly. Such as:

Augie Doggie (1959)

Cartoon:
The Quick Draw McGraw Show

Animal:
Doggie

Outfit: T-shirt

Tagline: "Dear ol' Dad!"

Plot summary: Basically Augie Doggie could've been saved a lot of stress if talking dogs in the fifties had some kind of a "Planned Parenthood" program. He was an unwanted child who was abandoned by his mother and left to toil through life with a simpleton father who meant well but did little more than make shocked face at a situation and go A CHA CHA CHA.

I love Augie Doggie too, and that site led me to one of my favorite cartoon characters. Our cockatiel, Teal, acted a lot like Johnny Bravo and even whistled the theme song. I love Johnny Bravo because he's so stupid.

The 50s! I would've guessed they were from the 60's, because I discovered these cartoons as a kid in the late 70s/early 80s! And thanks for that link, I found another of my favorites too, Mr. Jinx! Too funny.

Micah, I love Johnny Bravo, too. I went to college with Van, the creator, so Johnny has a special place in my heart. :)

My grandson, August, is known as Auggie Doggie, and his father, Jerry, of course is Doggie Daddy!
