What in the world is going on?!

Verizon buys out GTE
AT&T Wireless sells out and is bought by Cingular
Sprint buys Nextel
SBC buys Yahoo DSL
AT&T buys SBC
Verizon and MCI merge their business departments together

Why don't they all just go back to be one of the big ma bell companies and just call it The Phone Company?

Every time you turn on the TV now you see SBC now AT&T and bringing you larger coverage areas...blah blah.

And every time they make a change our billing gets messed up or our coverage drops. Seems like the dust never gets a chance to settle before the next merger.

Arg.

AT&T buys SBC

SBC bought AT&T, not the other way around. Why does everyone state it wrong? This week though they bought BellSouth.

I am in the area that has SBC for local phone service. I went to a focus group a couple of weeks ago for the new "AT&T Yellow Pages" - I thought that it is odd that they will change the name to AT&T even though it is AT&T that is being bought. Maybe since SBC is regional, AT&T has more national name recognition?

Exactly. AT&T is one of the most recognised brand names in the world, up there with things like Coca-Cola and Nike. Pretty powerful.

I am very interested in seeing what great things are going to happen as a result of the Sprint/Nextel merger...as per a letter I received from them.
