Does anyone know? I would love to make one for Father's Day, but I don't have an ice cream maker.
TIA.

No you do not need an ice cream maker for either sorbets or granita because they have no milk in them.
Let me edit my response by saying the reason you don't need an ice-cream maker is because the reason for using one is to prevent ice crytals from forming (the stirring and the cooling action of the salt aid in this). Sorbet and granitas are in fact frozen water, granitas are slushy compared to sorbets because they are scraped to form a coarse ice. The continuous stirring necessary for ice cream would be difficult to achieve without a machine-not impossible just difficult.

I've seen tons of recipes for sorbet that call for an ice cream maker. However, there are some that do not. I've even seen ice cream recipes that don't require a maker. My Cuisinart came with a recipe for frozen yogurt that didn't require an ice cream maker.
Try this thread for several non-ice cream maker sorbet/ice cream/sherbet recipes: http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/Forum1/HTML/007971.html

makedah, could you post the recipe for the frozen yogurt made in a Cuisinart? I have a Cuisinart, but my recipe is long gone.
Thanks,

One of my Mollie Katzen cookbooks has a recipe for pineapple ice that is basically chunks of pineapple whirled in a blender and then frozen. She adds sugar and pomegranate; i omit the sugar and pomegranate and add lime juice, coconut and rum. Anyhoo, the recipe says to freeze in a pan and "poke aggressively with a fork" every 20 minutes or so. This works really well.
