Okay. I purchased my Mastercook software (finally) but I feel like an idiot because I'm not sure how to set it up. I've gone to the BB at Mastercook, but can't find my answer.
Here's my problem: On my hard drive now, I have all my recipes categorized (cakes, pies, poultry, mexican, thai, vegetable side dishes, etc.) I guess my question is do I need a separate cookbook for each category or can you set up lots of categories in one cookbook?
Thanks for any help, you all-knowing BB's! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

you can set up many categories in a cookbook you name! Mine is named My CL Recipes. After I type or import a recipe, I go to the categories tab at the bottom and check the category (or ies) it is in. If the one you want isnt there, you can add your own!

You can definitely set up catergories within a cookbook. When you are in edit recipe mode, you can go to the "Categories" tab and select the catergories you want for that recipe. You can add new categories as you nedd them.
To categorize many at once, you can select the recipes in the cookbook browser screen that lists all of the recipes and then hit the "Categorize" button. Then you can select categories (and create them) that will apply to all of the selected recipes.
Let me know if this isn't clear.
I think this is a matter of personal preference, and over time that may change. I had a number of cookbooks from 2 or more versions of the software and have added more. Most of my new cookbooks are based on the source. I have my clips off this BB in a separate cookbook, but I'm thinking I need to subdivide it or start another one.
You can move things around pretty easily, so you can try different things and see what works for you. I don't use the categories that much, so I'll let someone else address that.
