Help! I am getting so tired of paying someone to clean our fithly carpets! Does anyone have a shampoo cleaner vacuum - or what ever they are called?

Do they really work? DO they clean as well as the professionals (or close)?

What is your favorite brand?

Thanks a ton in advance!

We have a Hoover-I'm not sure of the model, but it has the 5 round brushes that swirl around. My DH loves it (that's his job!!!) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

sandy - how often does your dh use it? does he train other dh's in the use of one?

hehehe - I'm sure he'd be game to write or call and give your DH some assistance!

We probably use it three times a year - spring cleaning, the end of summer, and just after the Christmas holidays. I don't think it's good for the carpet to use it very often, but maybe we're being overly cautious.

I also have the Hoover with the 5 brushes and I really like it. They have a better model with 6 brushes. I would recommend getting the model that has the rotating brushes in the hand attachment which you need for stairs. I have used the machine once (got it around Christmas). I have white carpet and I think twice a year will be adequate.

I also have the Hoover model with 5 brushes, and love it. I try to use it once every three months, but will hopefully cut down to 2 or 3 times a year as the kids get older. I have 2 small kids and off-white carpet (I know -- clearly a choice we made before we had the kids http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif ) and this really keeps it clean. I don't think it works quite as well as the commercial cleaning services, but I am hoping that since I do it more often and the carpet never gets as dirty, it will stay looking nice.

BTW -- for anyone who has little kids, this gets a great job of getting rid of the lingering smell from potty-training accidents!
