The UPS man and the mailman arrived at the same time today, one bearing my recent half.com order of CL Complete and Vegetable Heaven cookbooks, the other with the July issue of Cooking Light.
I am giddy! I am overwhelmed! I panicked, so tonight it's soup and grilled cheese for dinner. Too busy reading! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Cool! I love my CL Complete- it is soooo great...you'll love it, I am sure. So many recipes, so little need for calories, heavy sigh.....
I don't have July yet but that's okay.
I haven't gotten through June's much yet! I haven't seen Vegetable Heaven- did you learn about it on this site by any chance? I'll be interested to hear about it.
Have fun with your grilled cheese! What kind of cheese in your grilled cheese? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
-I am the cheese freak!

Chrisi, I'll leave the delivery men CL biscotti http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Yes, Vegetable Heaven was a CL discovery for me. It's by Mollie Katzen, of Moosewood and the Enchanted Broccoli Forest fame. Kim Wormann posted a thread a couple of months ago, just after she got hers, wondering what recipes she should try- this and the recent lunch salads thread convinced me it was a must have.
Tillamook Cheddar all the way, baby!!
Oh, I got my riding boots today- you are going to laugh!
Another vote for Tillamook Cheddar. We bring 2-lb loaves back with us whenever we go to CA.
I recently got 4 cookbooks through ebay and half.com after recently ordering the CL Complete, and I'm finally going to send in the Good Cook Club order. I had to do a little research on a few choices first, After not buying cookbooks for a while, I may go into shock.

I'm waiting from an order from The Good Cook...I can't remember how long they take. I don't remember exactly what I ordered, either, so it will be like Christmas! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Speaking of Tilamook cheese. I was very happy to find light Cheddar and Monterey Jack from Tilamook at the grocery store the other day. While the Kraft 2% is good, nothing beats Tilamook.

Just wanted to mention that I got Vegetable Heaven for the holidays and it is now one of my favorite cookbooks. I think the best dish is the black beans and mango sauce--we also love the chickpea and sweet potato koftas (i serve them with mint raita) and the peanut -chile salad dressing.

gardenjan,
Tillamook cheese, ice cream, yogurt, sour cream are made in Tillamook County, OR. THe cheese is pretty widely distributed- I have found it when living in the Midwest. Here's the website- the cheese and ice cream are well worth the search: http://www.tillamookcheese.com/index.html

Julie,
I know the feeling very well. I just got my Moosewood Daily Special 2 days ago from half.com and am waiting for my CL 1999 annual.
Saturday, I found a copy of Lorna Sass' vegetarian pressure cooker recipes at the swap meet for $4.00! They have copies of CL Complete (which my sis got me for my last bd and I love it!)for $10.00. They were still taking boxes of books out of the truck and I told the guy NOT to put out any more cookbooks until I leave!!! I MUST stop buying for now but am curious about Vegetable Heaven! Help!
No time to cook or read as it has been a very social week. Dinner out Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Party on Saturday. Can't wait to settle down with my books. Although I would love to see the July issue, I have lots to keep me busy. Have fun!

We toured the Tillamook Cheese Factory in Oregon a few years ago, and were disappointed when we found out that they weren't actually making cheese that day...
http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/rolleyes.gif however, they had lots and lots of cheese samples at the end of the tour. DH and I spent an hour in there and took home WAY more than we should have. Also had a huge Tillamook ice cream cone while we were there. It was a Happy Dairy Day!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif YUM!

Oh goodness, yes! They are men's- I have to wear 2 pairs of thick socks- but they are used and all broken in and BIG BAD BLACK.
I just couldn't see spending $80-120 on something I'd rarely wear- I have hiking boots aplenty, but nothing with a decent heel. Now, if I fall in love with horseback riding, as DH- a former 4-Her- promises, I may have to reconsider!

Better watch out, Julie, or you'll be listenin' to Dwight Yoakam soon! ....not that there's anything wrong with that! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif I ran out of my rural Oregon town as quick as I could after high school, and now have my very own pair of kickers & a fairly decent sampling of country cds interspersed among Dido, Moby, REM, Camper Van Beethoven, etc. Apparently, you can take the girl out of the country, but cannot take the country out of the girl! And I didn't even know there was any country in me 'till I heard Lyle Lovett & His Large Band...

KValley, be prepared. The horse stuff is addictive. I should know! One hint: If your shoe size doesn't exceed 7.5 you could possibly wear youth size boots. You'll find youth sizes are about half the price of women's boot. I'm very fortunate because I can wear youth sizes--gives me license to own more pairs! Enjoy the horses.

AAAIIIGGHH! I love Lyle Lovett! I completely resisted all entreaties to listen by non-country fan friends who spouted the virtues of Lyle, because I scorned anything remotely country. On a whim last summer I purchased "Road to Ensenada" Total Lyle Epiphany. I was born again.
And Amanda, I can't believe you mentioned Camper Van Beethoven. That takes me back to sophomore year of college, trying to get into Portland bars with my boyfriend, smoking...oregano...Meat Puppets, anyone? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
BTW- just bought the Dido CD this week- can't stop listening to it- reminiscent of Sara M, a bit of Sade...
Elizabeth- I'm a size 8.5/9- I have pretty wide feet, but average length, so most of my shoes are too long for me. The boots I found are a men's 8- they fit pretty well, even without extra socks, because they taper in to the toe. Wish I could wear a youth size...of ANYTHING http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Thanks for the well wishes!

It cracks me up how a single posting can include 3, 4, or 5 topics!
Gardenjan -- I must admit that Tillamook is yummy, but if you live in and/or near Wisconsin, you simply can't support the California cheese industry :-) Since Tillamook is Oregon, it might be able to slide by.
I'm a big cheese junkie, and learned on a recent trip to the dr. that I've gained weight. Soooo, I'm now trying to curb my cheese intake. Sigh (I haven't given up wine, though...gotta have some vices!)
And, I'm a big country fan (but yes, Meat Puppets too...and Dido), but never considered Lyle Lovett country. He's kind of in a class all his own.

I just had to throw in another plug for Tillamook cheese and Lyle Lovett! I'm biased on both counts, though: I live in Oregon, and Lyle & I share an alma mater (Texas A&M) and my mom used to work with his mom. (Not that that ever got me free tickets or anything!).
