Good News! As of June 14th, the Food Network channel is being added to standard cable lineup in the Puget Sound area. I personally have never seen the Food Network channel, and I'm excited to be able to finally see what everyone has been talking about.
Here's an article about the Food Network debut: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/artsentertainment/134305853_kay13.html
Now what shall I watch first??

YIPPEE!
I read the article you referenced, my only question was, I wonder what they mean by "upgraded standard cable lineup" DOes that mean you have to pay for premium channels, such as HBO, Showtime, etc to get it? I just have regular ol' cable...no premium channels. Hope it isn't so. I just don't watch that much TV!

OMG! WHat excitement! Of course, you must see Emeril, but I LOVE the Saturday nigth line up! Emeril at 8 eastern, followed by Good Eats (the science behind food) and The Naked Chef!
There are also good shows on all day Sat if you are puttering around the house including Ultimate Kitchens! I just recommend setting aside a Saturday to spend in front of the tube....it will give you an intro to EVERYTHING!!!!

Fantastic!
I've only seen it when I've been in other cities, but this is the channel for me. I'm hoping that it falls into the upgrade which we have so that DH can fall asleep with the history channel regaling him with facts and WWII battles.
Thanks for sharing the good news.

My husband and I were on a camping trip to the Oregon Coast - a long weekend. We had a couple days of rain and I ended up watching the Food Network. I had never seen it before. It was so much fun, I was wondering why we don't get it in Seattle. When we arrived home, there was the notice about the Food Network. Now I'm afraid it will be as addicting as this BB....oh well!!! I find I spend so much time fussing with all my recipes I don't have time to cook.

And we're waiting anxiously for the sale of our current cable system & the subsequent fall-out.
There are 2 cable companies here, AT&T & Americast. AT&T doesn't carry the Food Network (shameful!) & apparently doesn't care that people might want it. We have Americast w/the Food Network, but it's owned by SBC & they just sold it off to a small cable newcomer out west. Hopefully (fingers & toes crossed, praying madly!), they won't dump Emeril, Alton, & company. We'll just have to wait & see. In the meantime, Kentgirl, ENJOY!

Oh my gosh!! I'm jumping for joy. I darn near died when we moved back to Washington and I discovered they did not have Food TV. No Emeril? What was I going to do on Saturday nights? Let me tell you, not much! I'm calling the cable company tomorrow to find out the channel.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for sharing this information!!

I know what I'll be doing this Saturday - stuck to the TV all day!
dotglee - your DH and mine should get togther. Mine is absolutely addicted to the History Channel, especially WWII shows. He too falls asleep watching History Channel. At least he'll understand when I do the same with the Food Channel!

I had no idea you folks couldn't get the Food Network! We've been on DirectTV Satellite for about 3 years, so we've been spoiled! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif
Emeril's on at 5pm and the same episode airs again at 8pm, and 'Good Eats' is on whenever they darn well please to air it! Have fun everyone!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I am so happy for you all. When I moved into my condo last year, I got a new cable company that has all the awesome channels, Home and Garden, Bravo, Oxygen. It made me sooo happy. I love the Food Network!!!!

I don't get Food Network either, nor do I get the Comedy Channel or VH1. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif I would hound AT&T to get on it, but I'm already hounding them to get on the cable modem in my area, so I think they're pretty tired of hearing from me! For now, I have to make do with HGTV.

I thought VH1 was just standard cable......

Not here. I have all the cable channels that AT&T offers in my area, plus some premiums, like HBO and Showtime, but they don't carry those channels here. Weird, huh? I guess AT&T can choose which channels it offers, and they've decided not to offer those in this area.

WAHHHHH!
I called AT&T Broadband yesterday, and they assured me the FOOD Network would be on last evening..on channel 35... I kept checking all night, NO FOOD NETWORK!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif
This morning before I left I looked, and it was still... NORTHWEST CABLE NEWS! I quickly ran through the channels, but no new stuff.
Anybody else out there in King County getting it yet? They assured me my current package would include it.

browneye---Yes I did get it last night on Channel 35. I was only able to watch it for a few minutes---but it was on! You'd better call AT&T back and find out what's going on with your cable...that's very strange!
