EGADS.......What a horrible night. Where did the talent go?? There wasn't one person I really wanted to vote for.

Glad it wasn't just me! I thought last night was just booooooring. I liked (but didn't love) Elliott's interpretation of "I Don't Want To Be" but nothing else grabbed me at all. Blah. It will be interesting to see goes home tonight!

I agree, even the kids were not impressed. I am not a big Paris fan, but she was the one that I think showed improvement. I disagree with Simon that she sounded like a little girl imitating Byonce (sp??). I have 3 girls and not one of them can move like that.

Simon gave Chris grief this week for exactly what he said last week was his strongest point: knowing who he is and sticking to it.

I like Katherine (she sort of reminds me of Norah Jones), and thought she did better than most--I also like Elliot, but doubt that he has the "pizzaz" to win. I totally agree that the show last night was NOT entertaining.

My bottom three: Lisa, Bucky and Ace

I'm thinking that last week, the judges actually thought Chris created that version of Walk the Line himself. Actually, it was previously done by the band LIVE. So, maybe that was why Simon said what he did?? But, I do agree that Simon, and sometimes Randy & Paula, really seem to contradict themselves week to week. Chris is different from the others but, he does sing similar songs every week. I guess the judges want to hear him step out of his norm -- at least once. ??

I think last night's show was aweful. I think it was worse than the Stevie Wonder week. I was shocked because they had so many songs to choose from and they picked real stinkers. No one really stood out for me. If I had to guess, I'd say Lisa will go, mainly because she's been in the bottom 3 every time. But, I could see Bucky and Ace going, too. Ace just really bugs me. I don't find him attractive and I think he's a bad singer. I think he's good boy band material, though.

That's interesting- I'm not familiar with Live's version of the song but commented to DH while watching Chris's performance last week that he sounded a lot like the singer from Live!

I also thought Simon's comment was interesting considering last week he said he admired Chris for not compromising his style, though I don't think it's necessarily contradictory to also say he can't win if he doesn't change it up some. I can see that- I'm starting to get bored with him.

Yep, I was less than impressed too. I thought Taylor did a great job singing the song he picked, but I also thought he might have found a song that was more widely known. I liked the beginning of Chris' song, but thought the end was more geared to a rock concert than a singing contest. I thought Elliott did well and Katherine did well, but far below their best performances.
My bottom three:
Kellie
Lisa
Bucky

with Lisa going home.

I agree, it was boring. Simon was dead on with them, IMO. Katharine was my favorite, and that was about it. Paris would have been better if she hadn't tried to look like Beyonce - she bopped around too much, as did Elliott. I had to take my eyes off the TV - I was getting dizzy.

As for Lisa, when she came out and said she was going to sing a Kelly Clarkson song, I immediately thought she did it because she thought she was good enough to be the next idol and wanted to show the judges that. . It obvioulsy backfired on her, if that was the reason. C'mon - that was the stupidest thing to do.

Ace was terrible - I'm a big Train fan and it wasn't even good enough to be Karaoke.

Mandisa was just shouting - and that song was just not right for a competition like AI. I can appreciate her beliefs, but it was not the place for the song, IMHO.

My bottom 3 are - Lisa, Ace and Bucky. Not sure who goes home, but after last night, any of the 10 can go home and I wouldn't care.

I wanted to hide under the covers during Ace's performance. I could not believe he showed his scar. It was just very strange and awkward. When they replayed the clips and showed it again, I cringed.

Taylor was my favorite. I enjoyed seeing him just stand there and sing.

I always enjoy Chris. I didn't like Elliot's version of the song, but enjoyed his voice this time.

I wasn't in to anyone else. I thought Katherine and Paris did ok. I thought Paris's extensions were going to fly from her head!

I agree with funnybone, Mandisa sounded like she was shouting the entire time.

I think Lisa will be going home.

I am sure that's why Simon said what he did. Chris has fallen out of favor with the judges for not giving the proper credit there (and trying to pass off that version as his own twist) - he'll have to do something really different (like Bo did last year singing w/o the band) to get back in Simon's good graces.

Agree that it was a bad night - and I think this is a talented group. Taylor was the best, although it wasn't a "wow" performance - just good.

My bottom three - Lisa, Bucky, and Ace, with Lisa going home.

Interesting that we all have similar thoughts. I commented during Elliot's song that he was doing deep knee bends, not dancing, then Simon said horrendous dancing! :D

Much as I think Simon is completely acidic, many times his nasty comments are right on - and not just that dancing one.

During auditions, I thought Lisa was going to win it all. But I think the choices of people's songs have been horrendous. They had 6 years of songs to pick from and there wasn't a good one among them (for their particular voices).

I also disliked this week worse than Stevie Wonder week.

My votes for the bottom 3 are Bucky, Ace and Lisa. I so dislike Kellie, but I think she'll make it through for the next few weeks. I loved Simon's comment about having songs to pick from six years and choosing one called "Suds in a Bucket". Cracked me up. :p

I didn't think anyone was outstanding (I missed the Stevie Wonder week, so I'm only going based on performance from the other shows). Vocally, I think Taylor was the best.

It was just a bad night all around.

Well, they have 6 years of songs that AI can get the rights to :), but surely there was a wider range of choices than we saw last night!

I went to a movie last night and missed it - DH taped it and we plan to watch it tonight, but it sounds like it's going to be a disappointing show ... it was so good last week that that's a major letdown.

I can't even keep it straight...which one is which? I can't even get into it enough to remember names and faces. That's pathetic. Either the whole group is boring or I'm getting senile...

Thank you everyone for letting me know that it wsn't just me, it was not a good night for AI. I ws going to start a thread last night but I just did not know who I should pick on first :D I agree with so many of the previously mentioned thoughts, but I'll add a few for good measure ;)

Bottom three - Lisa, Ace, Bucky, and Kellie - yes, I know that this is 4, but I think last night was deserving of a bottom four, and if I could change the rules they would all go.

Lisa - I didn't even think part of her song was in tune. She seemed to be OK when singing the stronger parts, but when she went down to the quiter parts of the song she sounded like me in the shower :D . And why, oh why, pick a Kelly Clarkson song

Ace - Just plain gross showing us the scar, and doing actions along with the song. This isn't kindergarten. Even more gross was Paula telling us that he could tell her later how he got the scar, even Simon said "Oh, Paula, and shook his head.

Bucky - Yes, country is his style but I could barely understand the words, especially when he was singing the lower notes.

Kellie - Yes, I think we have a replacement for Jessica Simpson. And, if she appologizes once more when the judges tell he they didn't like her clothes, the song choice, etc I think I will scream. I would find it much more appealing if she told them to go jump :D

Mandisa - I agree with Simon that it was "indulgent". She certainly didn't do herself any favors, and I don't necessarily mean because she sang Gospel, I just mean that she missed an opportunity to pick a realtively modern song and show us what she has.

Chris - He is still my favorite but I would love to have seen him do a rock song with a softer flavor. Maybe Creed's With Arms Wide Open.

Elliot - He was good but he should not do "white boy" bopping, unless he is doing the song from Footloose when Chris Penn learns to dance :D

Katherine - She was pretty good, but I still don't like Diva songs.

Paris - I did not like her performace, but then I am not a big Beyonce fan either so this could have influenced it.

Taylor - I liked that this week he just stayed still and did not feel the need to move around the whole stage. It really showed off his voice because we weren't distracted.

Last night was one of those times when I really wonder how truthful they're being. As far as I can remember, EACH season, there's been one amazing performer who manages to hit the bottom three very early. Of course, from that point on, that means that person won't likely hit the bottom three again because voters realize how much they have to vote for this person. I wonder if she was REALLY in the bottom three (or actually, bottom 2???) or if it's just drama they add to the show.

I guess it's time to start voting. :D

Can someone give me a recap...who was in the bottom 3? I saw who went home on the idol website, but not who was in the bottom 3.

I think Katharine being in the bottom 3 is because people assume she is safe and don't vote for her as often as the ones they don't think are safe. I haven't voted yet this season, but I just might have to. Katharine is way too good to leave before Bucky or even Ace.

I was curious about pickfortheworst.com website and wondered who they were promoting this year. I guessed it would be Bucky. Wrong answer....they're standing firmly behind Kellie. They have quite the interesting information about the sweet innocent country-girl persona that Kellie is showing on the show.

I tried to vote for Katherine as a favor to DS who was at a track meet that evening. I never could get through. Not once. I tried immediately after for about 20 minutes (with frequent votes for Elliot in between! :D ), then tried again several times between 9:30 and 10:00PM. No luck. Hmmmmmm, kind of makes you wonder about Melanie's suspicions.......

On another Idol note, Paula has just signed on for another 3 years and Simon is signed on for 5 more years.

The article about Paula's signing from the Boston Globe (http://www.boston.com/ae/celebrity/articles/2006/03/29/abdul_signs_new_american_idol_contract/) says that there are more viewers than ever this year. I had sort of been wondering how much longer this show would last, since it seems to me that winning doesn't bring the stardom it used to. What's Reuben up to these days? What's Fantasia up to? It seems like Kelly Clarkson is the only one who's really made it to being a real star.

Carrie Underwood and Josh Gracin both do very well on the country charts.

My opinion is that Katharine really was in the bottom 3 this week. Both DH & I thought it was her worst performance to date. He actually cringed while she was singing.

I really thought the only way I would commit to watching this season to the end, is if Katharine and Chris go all the way. Both are not doing it for me. I really do not like Elliot or Tyler's style. I may fad out of my commitment to watching.

We had taped the show Tuesday night, so watched the performances right before the results show, which was actually a fun way to do it!

I was really intrigued to see what the deal was with Ace and the scar - and found it really creepy that he pointed it out during his song. But even more creepy that Paula suggested he "tell her about it sometime." (just to echo Gecko's comment). For some reason, she gets more annoying every time I see her - like she's trying too hard to be cute.

I thought Taylor was great - as well as Paris and actually also Mandisa.

I was very surprised to see Katherine in the bottom 3 - but also agree that it was her worst performance so far. I felt bad for Lisa as they were all commenting on the fact that Katherine shouldn't be in the bottom two while Lisa was standing right there.

I'm disappointed that they'll be doing a country theme next week - in part just because I'm not crazy about country music, but also because it'll give an advantage to 1-2 people who probably deserve to go next

Anyone else notice that they've stopped having them do the group songs? A nice change...

Beth H

Could you be talking about Bucky? :) I think if it were any other theme, he'd be on thin ace, but now he's guaranteed to be safe. My guess is Ace will be next to go - he's just not that good of a singer, and country probably will not be a good theme for him.

Well, I don't know. Elliot sang Stevie Wonder songs to rave reviews, but when it was Stevie Wonder week, the judges didn't like his performance much. You never know.

Did I mention that Elliot is my favorite?

I couldn't believe Katherine was in the bottom 3 either, but I was concerned because I had no problem getting through to voting for her. Maybe it's because I'm in NC and the rest of the state was probably voting for the 3 North Carolinians.
I agree that it was a horrible week for most of them, but I thought Katherine was the best of the bunch.
Kellie really needs to watch the dumb blonde routine, because unlike Jessica, it doesn't seem to come totally natural to her. For instance, last week when she asked "what's a ballsy?" Uh, come on! Even if you didn't know what it meant, don't tell me you wouldn't have asked someone in between shows!

Ace...oh my, but I can't even watch anymore for fear of what movement or expression might gross me out next.

Mandisa...I thought she was one of the better ones of the bunch this week. And Eliot who I normally like...well, this wasn't my favorite night for him.

I think Ace needs to go bye-bye next.

EllenL

This is my first full year of watching. I thought I was really hooked, but was bored with the song choices and performances. Next week won't be fun for me either, since country just isn't my thing.

And what was that performance from Shakira? Who is she and who is that guy? Was it really music or just pseudo belly dancing? (Yes, I know I'm really showing my age here by questioning this.)

Why are the vote totals never given? That seems strange to me. Why can't we know how far apart the bottom three are from each other and how many the top ones had? I know numbers can be boring (apologies to any mathematicians) but it would just take a second to flash the total number of votes each got....

Aaah. .. you've gotten to the root of the intrigue of AI - they never give numbers. It makes you wonder if the "results" are real or not, doesn't it? (Personally, I think the person leaving each week is the lowest vote getter, but I think sometimes the other bottom contestants are manufactured for suspense/to scare top contenders).

There was one season where they did give some numbers, but there was confusion and controversy about them. Either Ryan read them wrong or they were given to him wrong. I believe it was the Clay/Reuben vote.
