For Rob - he's let his grow to below his shoulders (and you don't even want to hear the snotty comments I've gotten from other moms  ). But today he's decided that he wants it all off.

Sigh.

I'm sort of glad because it was getting rather shabby, but frankly I thought he looked darling with long skaterboi hair. I'll miss my cute, shaggy puppy.

Rob must be your son (???). I just wanted to say that one of my sons had long hair too---sounds like about the same length as your son's. He cut it last year for wrestling season and it was so weird to see him with short hair!!
This same son also had his ear pierced about 6-7 years ago. He gets more negative comments about that, I think.
Why people think it's their business is beyond me.

My older son is almost to the bottom of his shoulder blades (and he is 6'3"). He plays football and throws shot put/discus. My only complaint is that he doesn't comb it ... but he complains when he combs it the curls go away ;) :D (and he has beautiful ringlets).

When he cuts it...I won't recognize him. He hasn't cut it since the end of freshman year (and he is a junior now).

I think guys--especially younger boys look cute with longer shaggy hair. I can just see my uptight inlaws getting upset because our son doesn't have a high and tight. They get mad because my Rob's hair is longer. It's full on the sides, sometimes touches his ears  and is heavy in the front so sometimes it's floppy. Rob has twice as much hair as I do.

I don't get why it's such a big deal.

I figure there are so many other things to worry about with teenage boys then hair length. Actually my son looks like a throwback to the late 60's/early 70's. His brother keeps his shorter only because his grows out into a 'jewfro' rather than down.

Michael's hair is longer than mine

Never heard the term 'jewfro', but I imagine it's similar to what my son's hair would do if it grew long. His hair is very thick and curly, and he has seen pictures of his dad with his hair in a "fro" as a teenager. "No way!" is his response to that. DS is a regular at the barbershop! :p

It's the slang around here. They refer to their friends as the 'jewcrew' as well :)

I must say I like the long hair on teenage boys, especially if it gets curly on the ends  Our local Catholic high school dictates that boys' hair may be no longer than their collar so that's as long I usually see it around here.

On a related note...I watched the beautician cut 6 inches of strawberry blond off of DD2 today :( . She has been begging me for months to have short hair like her sis and I finally gave in. I love the cute little bob she now has, but it is always hard to see all that hair fall on the floor.

Yep, DS1 had to cut his hair last summer before school started. He's going to let it grow for the summer, though, and I think it looks good long. He'd better enjoy it while he can - DH started losing his early and DH's dad and grandfather were "early balders" too

I figure that hair length is one of those "pick your battles" things...

Exactly! I thought we learned all about that in the 60's! Shame on people for making long hair on boys an issue! :(
