Did I miss a thread talking about last night's episode?
I thought it was great. I was totally taken off guard about LIbby being a patient - I was expecting her to be on staff there. So do you all think she's really a pyschologist (or did she say she was a psychiatrist? - I can't recall but I thought it was the former).
I felt like we knew Hurley had an imiganary friend already - at least DH thought he did so it was obvious to us all along that he was the only one seeing him. And of course the numbers again with how many the deck was built for and how many were on it.
Soooo, is "Henry" telling the truth finally about not entering the numbers? Odd that they/he wouldn't have searched pockets before burying him.

Libby being a patient totally threw me for a loop. Now I don't know what to think. I also did not catch on that Dave was imaginary.
I have no idea if Henry is lying or not.

I too thought it was pretty obvious that Dave was imaginery from the get-go; I kept thinking of Fight Club.
And I couldn't believe that Hurley and Libby threw out all that food in the beginning!! Maybe he didn't want them to know that he had stashed it and that's why he didn't just give it to the rest of the group. But personally I would have tried to exchange it with Sawyer for something else (of course that was before they realized there was another food drop). And the rest of the group walked right past the mess....wasn't somebody like "Hey! WTF, who threw perfectly good food all over the ground!!"
The Libby thing surprised me. She looked pretty out of in the institution, so I'm wondering how she's doing so well without her meds unless she has them hidden.

I must have read something suggesting that Libby was a patient b/c I wasn't surprised. Earlier this season there was an exchange where Hurley said "Do I know you from somewhere?" and she clumsily deflected the question by saying he'd stepped on her foot or something on the plane. I remember thinking then that they'd probably been hospitalized together.
I was also shocked that they just destroyed the food! I understand Hurley's shame at stashing it but sheesh- desert island, 40+ people, limited supplies!!
Interesting episode overall- last season there was speculation that one explanation for the whole island and whatever is that all of these people were in some kind of therapy together- I wonder if last night's "the island is imaginary" Hurley story was meant to debunk that theory for once and for all.

I couldn't bring myself to discuss this episode earlier...the scene where Hurley dropped the jar of peanut butter from his backpack was just too traumatic for me. I'm all for moving the plot along, but was it really necessary to sacrifice a big, beautiful jar of creamy PB in the process?? :p
I agree with the others who've posted about Hurley and Libby destroying the food stash. I couldn't figure out why they wouldn't just give it to the rest of the survivors. I mean, won't someone else come across a bunch of empty food containers in the middle of the jungle and wonder where it came from? Along the same lines, why would Sawyer throw away an Oreo cookie just because the top half broke when he tried to take it apart? Sure he screwed up and didn't twist it, but a broken cookie tastes just as good! :D
I had suspected Libby may know Hurley from the hospital, but didn't think she'd have been a patient there. Maybe she told Hurley she believed he could change because she herself has changed. I hope they show her back story soon! I'm wondering now, too, if she really is a psychiatrist or just "playing one on the island". Do you all suppose she remembers Hurley from the hospital? She seemed pretty drugged up at the end, so it's hard to say what she was aware of at that time.
I was happy to see Evan Handler as Dave last night. I always loved him on Sex & the City and haven't seen much of him since.
Next week's episode looks good! I'm hoping they at least show Michael and Walt at some point, even if they don't rejoin the Lostees. Anyone know how many new shows are left this season?

Well, I'll be a voice of descent here--I really didn't like the episode last night. I felt like it was all a trick to get us off track. I liked the Hurley back story and when Jin and Sun were laughing about Hurley and Sawyer fighting (someone should put him in his place!), but the rest seemed like a bunch of obfuscation :D  I mean of course we'd see Libby in the hospital and of course we'd be led to think that this was all a part of Hurley's imagination, but I am not convinced for one minute that we have any more info than we had when the ep started. It just seemed like the obvious plot choices were made. Must be my week to be frustrated with the show! :) :p
It was rather funny to see everyone run right past Hurley's stash and then tear into the food drop--tunnel vision!--often a problem on the island.

DH and I have been taping and then periodically catching up- so am just now able to comment on this thread. Just in time- new episode tonight!
OK, here's my thought on the Libby thing. She had brown hair in the hospital. She has blond hair now. Is that realistic? It would have to be a dye job, and it'd be fading now right? (Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't dye.). I mean I know the sun could be bleaching it some, but...
So my theory is that that was her twin sister. I.e., that's why she's a sympathetic person, and became a psychologist, and why Hurley thought she looked familiar but didn't out and out recognize her.
Just a theory! Could be wrong.
I've loved the last two episodes.

I recorded the episode and "lost" the last few minutes because I guess it airs beyond the scheduled hour. Does anyone know how many minutes past the scheduled end time I should account for to be safe with that in the future?
I also enjoyed the last two episodes very much.
And even though I missed the Libby in the hospital part, dreamer, that is a very good theory -- roots would definetely be showing!

Dreamer - ohhhhhhh. What an interesting idea. I hadn't caught the hair color difference. :o (or maybe it's our tv).
I have mixed feelings about having a back story about Rose and her husband tonight. I like them the way they are.

Unless of course she's a natural blond who dyed her hair brown while in the hospital.
I agree, I want to know what's up with Walt!

Very cool theory about hospital-Libby being a twin of island-Libby! My only question about it is why would the twin in the hospital be called Libby if she's not the same woman from the island?
Sarah, I always DVR the show in case I miss something, and my cable guide always lists the show as running until 9:03pm. So you might want to tape an extra 5 minutes past the hour just to be safe.

I thought of that- but the brown hair seemed like a pretty 'mousy' brown (IMO!- No prejudice against brunettes here- I'm one!)- not a color you'd dye your hair to get. Then again, it could be my TV. Anyway, fun to guess about!

Kari, we were posting about the same time, so I missed your comment till now. In my memory the person in the hospital was never actually identified by name. Anyone else remember anything on this?

Interesting theory, dreamer. Seems like a possibility. And I am still fixated on the screenplay Sawyer was reading a few episodes ago that was called 'Evil Twin', so I am expecting someone to be/have a bad twin. The other thing I thought of with Libby is that maybe someone has been keeping tabs on Hurley, and is using Libby to follow him, so she pretended to be crazy to go into the psych hospital with him.
One thing I have been wondering - we are 1 1/2 seasons into this show, and about 50 days or so of show-time have passed. Now Sun is pregnant. If the pace of the show doesn't pick up, it will be about 7 years before her baby is born!

Anne (beacooker), too funny re: Sun! And I loved your other ideas. I think "it takes a village" to notice/remember everything in this show! I didn't remember about that 'evil twin' screenplay, and your theory re: someone tracking Hurley is very interesting.
The reason I thought of the twin thing in the first place, in addition to the hair, was that the mental patient who looked like Libby looked kinda creepy- pretty different in demeanor from blonde Libby.

As they panned to hospital-Libby, the nurse said "Here is your medicine, Libby." Maybe she took her twin sister's name after a horrible, tragic accident and devoted her life to helping others because she could not help her sister? :D :p

:D Oh well! I guess you put the kibosh on that twin theory. Unless of course there really was a horrible tragic accident... :D

I read in TV Guide that there is something about Rose and Bernard's backstory that will give you "the willies". I am looking forward to it.
Does anyone remember Walt's mother saying in one of Michael's stories that she does not have contact with her parents? Wouldn't it be typical lost fashion if Rose and Bernard were her parents making them Walt's grandparents?
I love this show!
