I have never made asparagus before and would like to make it for a dinner I'm having. Do any of you know any good recipes or have any ways that you cook it?

There have been a bunch of asparagus threads lately; if you type asparagus into the search function using it only in the subject line, you'll come up with a great list.
This one, though, has some wonderful recipes on it, two of which I tried and loved myself. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/Forum1/HTML/006354.html
The Sesame-Roasted asparagus recipe in the lastest issue was excellent, too. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I am so new at asparagus! I just found out that I like the stuff too, but I found that I have to have it crisp-tender. Asparagus will go from a bit of crispness to mushy in a flash! Keep a close watch on it.
I made up a recipe called Garlicky Green Beans a few years ago that I have also made with asparagus instead of green beans with great results. It's more of a hit and miss with my measurements, but if you do a BB search by that title you should find it. Very good with asparagus!
I also love roasting it! That can make it too soft really quick if I'm not careful, so I'm real anal about opening that oven every minute or two! Toss spears with a bit of olive oil, sesame oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper, then place single layer on a baking sheet. Roast at 450 deg for about 5 or 10 minutes depending on preference!

Another asparagus novice here. I tried the Sesame Roasted Asparagus(here's the link: http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/Forum1/HTML/006702.html ) and loved it. Last night I roasted asparagus and all I did was spray it with a bit of olive oil and sprinkle it with garlic salt, pepper and some fresh lemon juice - yum! I have found that roasting it at 450º for 10 minutes has worked well for me, but all ovens are different!
My favorite way to cook asparagus is to roast it! You can jazz it up but a simple and wonderful way to do it is to put in a pan toss with a small amount of olive oil, season with salt and pepper and roast at a high temperature- 400-500 degrees for about 15 mins. You can add garlic, lemon juice or use another oil- sesamee oil etc.
This method of cooking asparagus is so easy and simple and will wow your guests!

I like to lightly toss asparagus with balsamic vinegar, olive oil and a little salt then roast at 500 for about 8-10 minutes. Roasted asparagus is good warm or at room temperature.

I accept the title with pleasure!
We had grilled broccoli last night with soy marinade over rice, and it was INCREDIBLE!

Kim:
Can you provide more details on your broccoli dish? I tried grilling broccoli once and turned it into charcoal!
Also, that marinade sounds divine. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I'm absolutely addicted to asparagus, when I want to do it right, I roast it and toss it w/balsalmic vinegar and oil.
But, when I want to cook it up quickly -- I do it in the microwave.
Just put it in a bowl with a little bit of water, cover, and microwave for about 3-4 minutes.
I usually sprinkle a little lemon pepper on it -- perfect for a quick lunch!
Yum!

There was a great recipe for Grilled Asparagus in a 2000 issue of Cooking Light--don't remeber which month. The aspargus was marinated in soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, etc.

Sorry it took awhile. Actually, I dont have recipe. I marinate it in any sauce I in the mood for (that night it was a sesame soy merinade from WIlliams-SOnoma), then put it on the grill for 12-15 minutes, turning once until grilled to the consistency you like http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif It is HEAVENLY!

Asparagus is on sale for 98 cents/lb at my grocery and I bought just over a pound. It's just me and I can only eat roasted or steamed asparagus so many nights.
Any other ways to cook it than have been mentioned in this thread?!
TIA
