You all may have already heard this, but in my opinion, it is not getting the press it needs. This contact lens solution has been associated with a very dangerous fungal condition and the manufacturer is telling people not to use the solution, although I am not aware of an official recall.

I heard this on the radio yesterday. However, what I recall is that there have been cases where people have not used that particular solution, also. So, just keep you hands clean, contacts clean and rotated out like we are all supposed to - but (speaking for myself) may not be careful enough about.

I use that solution, but have mixed feelings about it since nothing has been proven yet. On one hand, I have not encountered problems so far, but I use the product correctly. I wash my hands, rinse my cases, never reuse solution, and I do not sleep in my lenses. I have heard that some have reported sleeping in their lenses when they are not supposed to. Even though the solution says "no rub", my opthomologist has always advise me to rub. I am running out of the solutuion, but to be on the safe side, I will switch over to the product son uses (Complete, I think) - never can be too safe.

I use this solution. After I read about this yesterday, I swear my eyes starting burning! The mind, it plays tricks. I'm not sure what I'm going to do - I just opened a brand new huge bottle of the stuff.

Its not only Renu - they make a generic brand too. I'm not sure what it's called, but it's manufactured in Rochester, NY.

How does this happen? Stupid fungus!

For all of you who think you use this solution, double check. I was sure that this was what we use too, but I ran to the bathroom to check and it's not the same as the B&L ReNu Multi Plus No Rub (I checked the website to be sure). If it says Multi Plus on your bottle, it's not the same as the ReNu with Moisture Loc.

My ex-hubby works for B&L. He said it's been wild for the past several weeks while things have been analyzed and puzzles tried to be solved. He said they've definitely come to the conclusion that lots of people do NOT have good healthy habits when it comes to taking care of their contacts and eyes. The problem evidently started in Singapore. During the research, they found people who had cases that were BLACK!!! How old can a contact case be before it turns black! If the outside it that awful, how bad can the inside be. And if you pick up the black case, that's obviously getting into a person's eyes.

They're definitely puzzled. By the way, it has jumped to solutions that other companies manufacture as well. Since B&L is the largest, it's the one you hear about in the news. His suggestion...replace cases regularly and take the precautions you know you should take. I think most people are just getting new bottles of solution.

My optometrist actually suggest putting your contact case through the dishwasher to help keep it clean. I now do it occasionally (I wear extended wear contacts so they are only in the case once every two weeks)

That's good to hear. I am not going to worry about tossing my new bottle of solution (and mine is the Renu with MoistureLoc). I'll just take extra care with being sanitary. I certainly don't have a nasty blackened lens case! Ugh!

Mine is the MoistureLoc version - I switched to it when it came out. I'm really inclined to think it has to do with people being careless and not clean with the lenses rather than a specific solution that is causing the fungus. I get a new case from my optometrist twice a year - one during the eye exam and one for the 6 month contact lens check, so my cases are no where near dirty.

CNN.com also had an article on this. They said that this infection started as a fungus and grows on plants in the tropics. I'm guessing how that spreads. Touch plant, rub eyes, repeat. I get cases when I visit my eye doctor and when I order contacts from 1-800 Contacts. I always wash my hands, but you learn good hygene habits in college when pink eye is constantly going around.

I was one of the crazy ones trying to buy this yesterday. I LOVE my ReNu Moisture Loc. I begged the guy at Target to let me buy  :o I am very sanitary with my contacts - as I have learned to be. I also wear disposables but remove them every night anyway per my opthamoligist's instructions.

I am on the last of my stash of Moisture Loc.

Has anyone found a good replacement contact lens solution that provides extra moisture?

I've been using Opti-free as the recommendation of my Optometrist. I used to use B&L and have been happy with this one. Here is a link
