Ah, yes, I'm proud of this bit of money-maneuvering...

Our grocery store has a program where, for every $50 I spend, I get 10-cents off of a gallon of gas at their station. This is cumulative, and you can use it for a maximum of 30 gallons. This store also sells gift cards to other retailers (Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, Macy's, etc) and these sales also count for the "fuel perks" discounts.

DH and I made the decision to purchase both an exercise bike and a bowflex home gym. These were purchases which we already planned for, and we looked and compared prices until we found the best deals. We bought gift cards from the grocery store to make those purchases and, with the 50 cents or so already on my "fuel perks" program, the total came to $2 off each gallon! So we filled both of our cars today (for almost $25) and saved $60! :D

It was a bit of a hassle and we have a little money left on the cards for both Sears and the sporting goods store (hope I remember that I have the cards next time I make a purchase) but what a great feeling to be filling up for almost the same price I paid for gas in college!

(just felt like doing a bit of shameless bragging...) ;)

I can only dream of this. Gas is $3.09 on average here and expected to go up by another .12 this week

Oh my gosh! That is great!! Too bad our store does not do that! I would much rather have gas than a free deli sandwich or greeting card!

The station closest to our house was $3.09. I drove another few blocks to our 'cheap' station and filled up for $2.85 a gallon.

I just filled up, and paid 15 bucks for 1/3 - 1/4 a tank of gas.

Lowest I found was 2.85/gallon, but I've seen it as high as 2.95....

Vicci, I think we shop at the same grocery. I love to save up my points and then let my gas tank get as low as possible and then fill up for $1 something a gallon.

I drive away feeling great!

Only, I'm wondering if our groceries aren't costing a little more to cover this perk.

I should get a gift card for Bed Bath and Beyond for myself to use since I usually stop in there once a week or so.

That's great, Vicci! :) I love money saving bargains like that. It makes my day to save as much money as possible on any kind of purchase. Good for you!

Sue, Good ol' Giant Beagle, huh? :) I mostly buy sale items there since I do a lot of my grocery shopping at Sam's Club or down at the Strip. But those fuel points do add up! And it feels so good to save money-- I love bargain shopping!

I was out today (downtown and the south hills) and didn't see anything below $2.95... eek.

What grocery store is this?

The store is Giant Eagle (although since I was a kid I've always called it Giant Beagle. Always been a dog person rather than an admirer of predatory birds...). They're located in Western PA and NE Ohio.
