Ah, yes, I'm proud of this bit of money-maneuvering...
Our grocery store has a program where, for every $50 I spend, I get 10-cents off of a gallon of gas at their station. This is cumulative, and you can use it for a maximum of 30 gallons. This store also sells gift cards to other retailers (Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, Macy's, etc) and these sales also count for the "fuel perks" discounts.
DH and I made the decision to purchase both an exercise bike and a bowflex home gym. These were purchases which we already planned for, and we looked and compared prices until we found the best deals. We bought gift cards from the grocery store to make those purchases and, with the 50 cents or so already on my "fuel perks" program, the total came to $2 off each gallon! So we filled both of our cars today (for almost $25) and saved $60! :D
It was a bit of a hassle and we have a little money left on the cards for both Sears and the sporting goods store (hope I remember that I have the cards next time I make a purchase) but what a great feeling to be filling up for almost the same price I paid for gas in college!
(just felt like doing a bit of shameless bragging...) ;)
