I'm looking for some new food websites
-sites to buy ingredients (especially ethnic ingredients) and cookware. I know Penzeys has a website - has anyone ordered from them?
-also web sites for recipes and cooking techniques. Besides cookinglight.com I visit epicurious.com and foodtv.com.

Hi,
I m not a big online shopper, to say the very least, but I do like to browse once in a while. Some sites you might like are www.tavolo.com, (http://www.tavolo.com,) www.cooking.com, (http://www.cooking.com,) and www.williams-sonoma.com (http://www.williams-sonoma.com) (though for me nothing beats the experience of in-person shopping at W-S!). Happy surfing!

I have purchased online from Penzey's and I was very pleased with the quality. My favorite spice to order from them is a chipotle chili powder-spicy and good!

Cooks Illustrated has a website where many of the techniques they describe in their magazine are available. (Their recipes, too, I believe.)
They do not have any advertising on their site, so that while some articles are available free, a monthly subscription is required to access others,
The address is www.cooksillustrated.com (http://www.cooksillustrated.com)

Dana I just found this advertised in a magazine. Haven't had time to really check it out yet, but it seems to fit your ethnic request! Good luck,

Although I prefer to fax orders rather than shop online,I rather like Penzey's competitor, The Spice House www.thespicehouse.com. (http://www.thespicehouse.com.) Vanessa recently pointed me to starchefs for recipes www.starchefs.com. (http://www.starchefs.com.)

For recipes, the largest collection is probably www.kitchenlink.com (http://www.kitchenlink.com)
For ingredients, especially more unusual, try www.orientalpantry.com (http://www.orientalpantry.com) , www.zingermans.com (http://www.zingermans.com) , www.spoon.com (http://www.spoon.com) or www.gourmetmarket.com (http://www.gourmetmarket.com)

King Arthur Flour! I forgot about that one. It is one of my favorites. Actually, I think they have my charge card number listed under their favorites! It's great for baking. I use their flour, but get it locally.
Another good site is www.allrecipes.com (http://www.allrecipes.com) - they have sections on tons of foods.

Dana, I can't add much to the recipe and idea sites (I like FoodTv.com better before they changed it and made it harder to find anything), but I have ordered from Penzey's and been very pleased. They have a couple of blends I use all they time, especially the Bicentennial Rub (on poultry) and Pasta Sprinkle (used solo or as a shortcut for all the individual herbs to build on). My husband recently found the Spice House that Gail mentioned, but I haven't ordered from them yet. Sounds like you could be happy with both.

Penzey's is the only place I buy my seasonings now. Our favorite blends are Galena Street chicken and rib rub (which I actually rub on salmon and tuna more than chicken); Greek seasoning (makes a great marinade); California pepper blend; Pasta Sprinkle; and Black & Red (ground cayenne and black pepper mix). I buy cumin, peppercorns, paprika, etc. in bulk bags at great savings and replenish my jars rather than always purchasing new jars. (We season a lot so it's worth it for us).

Allrecipes.com--just like it says. I like the way the categories are broken down, and the visual format is good, too. Mind you, none of these recipes are low-fat as far as I can tell (unless you do a word search for low fat), but the people who run the board are very responsive to feedback and they have a random "recipe of the day" for each category as well as a 10 Top favorites. I sound like a commercial, don't I? But I love surfing that site.
