Some of the Virginians on this board have talked about Trader Joe's refrigerated pizza dough...but I've never seen it here in S. CA (San Diego)...has anyone else? Is it just my store or don't they carry it here in CA??

Unfortunately, they don't have it in the Costa Mesa store. My son works there and I told him to request it. We'll see what happens.

WendyW - Do you shop at the Irvine store?

Well, for what it is worth, I couldn't find it in Northern California either (Monterey). Unfortunately, I believe it's a victim of regional availability. I was really hoping to find it, so it's very sad that it hasn't made it out here. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

Hi SoCal,

I do shop at the Irvine store on occasion as I work around the block from there and it is convenient to go there after work. Actually, I go to the Costa Mesa store more as I love to go to Grower's Direct. Haven't seen the pizza dough at either place.

I asked the guy in TJ in Torrance, CA, and he never heard of it! All they have is the baked thing, like a boboli!

How odd! In Northern VA, it comes in this nice little plastic bag (like a bread bag) and is in the refrigerated section right next to the cheese. I wonder if you can request it from the store manager, because it is really good dough.

Just an FYI...TJ's now has the pizza dough in Southern California....at least at the Costa Mesa store!! It's in the refrigerated section that has the pre-made pizzas, sandwiches, etc. (.99 / bag). Haven't bought it yet but it is on my list to try (I know, I know, I could make my own!).

I just saw it over the weekend at the Pacific Beach location on Garnet. It's in the refrigerated section by the pizzas and deli meats. It's on my list to try too.

Thanks for the info., Diane! I haven't made pizza in months! I have a brand spanking new pizza stone that hasn't been used yet. I usually make my own dough but have those moments when I'm too lazy or can't get over to my favorite Italian deli. I really hate the tubed grocery store stuff. It looks like I will be making pizza this weekend!!!

Btw Diane, do you remember Chef Mila from the CM store? She is now at the TJ's in Irvine. She is great!! What a character and she gives such good advice.

And how funny, I just bought a new pizza stone today guys! From Crate and Barrel. Wendy, I looked up your suggestion and yours is sold out at cooking.com. Sniff sniff. Didn't spend too much on it. Let's hope I don't kill it like that last one.

valeriek sure liked it!! Also, LSB mentioned that a friend said it freezes well. I asked the food demonstrator at TJ's about freezing the dough and she said she didn't know but probably not since it was 'live'?? I guess because of the yeast but what about Bridgford frozen bread and rolls?? Of course I didn't think about that until I was out of the store  !

Hi Wendy!! - Yes, I remember Mila. She is great! The Irvine store is lucky to have her. She did have a website although I haven't checked it out in awhile ( www.chefmila.com ).

BTW Wendy, sorry to hear about the break-up. Hope I'm not out of line mentioning it. Are you doing OK? :(

Well I looked at the pizza dough in TJ's. It is just a blob of dough in a plastic bag. Ok, it is only 99 cent, but, you can make your own, either by hand or in the breadmachine. I was underwhelmed! Don't think I would bother to buy it.
I usually get a boboli at the Orowheat Thrift Store on half price day. When you spent more than $5.00, you get a freebee. Last time I got a thin crust boboli, which is what I usually buy. I stuck it in the freezer! I love their Master Best Whole Grain Breads.
In the grocery store they are over $3.00, but in the dayold store,$1.49! I usually get one of each and put them in the freezer. I make 1 slice of toast in the morning and put on some of my homegrown, boysenberry jam.

Diane,
No, you are not meddling about my breakup. He & I are still friends and talk about once a week. His Mom and I are still great friends and she understands my perspective on things. The time alone has been great! I've lost some weight, have been walking, reading, making healthy things that I want to eat, playing on the computer, and have been doing what I want without worrying about anyone else's schedule, etc. I'm just not ready to go through all of the dating nonsense at the moment. Men either have to fall from the sky and into my lap or I have to trip over them.

Btw: it would be fun to meet you sometime. Maybe we could have lunch at Taco Mesa, or do a people watch/laugh in South Coast Plaza or better yet, Fashion Island, or somewhere interesting in our area. Or...we could meet at TJ Costa Mesa and shop.

Bea,
Thanks for the heads up about TJ's pizza dough. This weekend, I want to finally try the bbq (in the oven) chicken pizza and it really does not take that much effort to haul out the bread machine and make my own dough.
