It wasn't just you. I thought the same thing, and so did my SIL.
I hate to say it, but my boy Taylor had probably one of his worst performances. I'm concerned for him, but honestly - if he goes home before Kellie after tonight's performance, I will honestly have to have my own hearing checked. That girl's performance was downright pathetic.
I think my favorite tonight was Elliott. After being in the bottom 3 so often, he probably knew he had to pull out the big performance. I thought his song choice was awesome. I wanted to put the hurts on Paula after her blubbering.
Bottom 3, I'm guessing, will be Kellie, Taylor, and Paris, with Kellie going home.
Tonight was the first time in weeks I got to see the whole show. My top 3 were Katherine, Elliott and Chris.
I thought Kelly was awful and I truly hope she gets booted off tomorrow night. I caught the clip where she was with David Foster and Andrea Bocelli and was on the floor saying something like "I'm gasping for air" or something like that, and I couldn't believe someone would act like that in their presence. She really needs to go; she's an idiot.

I thought Kellie was really awful. Agree that Taylor had a bad night, and thought Paris did well.
I did think Katherine was pretty good- not sure what the judges were on about.
Chris and Elliott both had good performances. I've decided, though, that Chris is a true cheeseball- anyone who can cite that Bryan Adams song as a "great love song" has to be cheesy.

Ha! I thought the exact same thing. He certainly blew any "street cred" he might have had with that comment. :)
I also thought Katherine was good and was surprised at the comments - maybe they're being hard because they expect fantastic things from her?
Kellie was horrible - she by far is the weakest singer left. Elliott was my favorite tonight.
Was Paula drunk? She seemed sort of out of control at points during the evening.

I thought Katharine sounded fantastic...she just seemed stiff as far as presentation. She sounded so good though and I thought the judges were crazy!
Loved Chris and Elliot too!
Taylor is so great and charismatic (sp?) but he can't switch genres like some of the others can.
I think the bottom 3 are Taylor, Kellie and Paris with Paris going home (only because I think the VoteForTheWorst is actually working and Kellie will make it through only because of it!) if she is not in the bottom 3 on this week we will KNOW things ain't right

I agree that Kellie should be the one to go after tonight.
Chris is still my top choice.
Kathryn seems to be dressing to try to outdo Paula in the "falling out of her dress" race.
Laura

I think the bottom three would be Kellie, Taylor and Paris as well. I am guessing the Ace votes will not go to Kellie and she will finally, finally go (please let her go!)

Okay, I just played back the DVR, and I still think Katherine was really fantastic.
I hope these judges apologize after they've viewed this show.
I agree that Taylor was painful tonight. And I hate that.

I think Taylor will be the one to go tomorrow. There's some weird support for Kellie out there. I think she'll stay.
The person who just amazes me is Paris. She is only 17, but she has such vocal maturity and range. I don't know if she'll win (or if that would actually be a good career move for her), but I really think she is phenomenal.

I disagree. I think Kellie's got to go. Really really, based on this show. Her personality can't carry her any farther, imo.

I thought that Katharine wasn't as bad as the judges thought she was but I'm wondering if it sounded better on tv than it did live. If PAULA says someone wasn't good, then it must have been bad.
I was horribly embarassed for Paula last night. She seemed even more strange than usual.
Kellie better go home. She needs to find someone to "play pottery" with.

*snort* I wasn't sure I heard that right when she first said it, but when Ryan came back with (something to the effect of) "I'm sure by the end of the season you'll have someone to play pottery with."

I agree that I thought Katherine was really good last night--and I don't particularly like her---she strikes me as one of those genuine people who SEEM fake--ever met someone like that? It's a stiffness about them or something. Anyway.
I disagree about Taylor, I thought he sounded pretty good and I think he chose about the best song he could for himself. Elliott was FANTASTIC last night.
My pick to go home is Kellie, but agree that she probably won't. I think we are in for a surprise tonight.

I definitely agree about Kellie. She needs to go. I am so tired of her "ditzy" manners. It's getting old. I think even Simon, who thought it was cute at the beginning, is getting tired of it. Come on, "play pottery?" Just leave the show and go get a job in tv somewhere. I'm sure someone would scoop her up. She just needs to go and needed to go a few weeks ago.
I didn't care for Chris too much this week. I know his niche is the rocker guy but, he just sounds too much like LIVE every week. I think his act is getting old (at least to me he is). He just seems the same week after week. I do think he is good, though, and I think he will be able to make some albums.
I think Elliott did the best this week. I'm not too fond of his voice but, he did do a great job and he just seems like a genuinely nice guy.

I also really like Katherine, I don't get it. My favorite is still Elliot though. I thought Paris also did really well. I didn't like either Kelly or Taylor. I usually like Chris alot but if he was going to choose a Bryan Adams song, why not choose:
(Everything I Do) I Do It For You
Look into my eyes - you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart - search your soul
And when you find me there you'll search no more
Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
You can't tell me it's not worth dyin' for
You know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you
Look into my heart - you will find
There's nothin' there to hide
Take me as I am - take my life
I would give it all I would sacrifice
Don't tell me it's not worth fightin' for
I can't help it there's nothin' I want more
Ya know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you
There's no love - like your love
And no other - could give more love
There's nowhere - unless you're there
All the time - all the way
Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
I can't help it there's nothin' I want more
I would fight for you - I'd lie for you
Walk the wire for you - Ya I'd die for you
Ya know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you

I didn't enjoy the show last night. Of course, my husband makes fun of me for watching the show and this was the first one he watched all season. He liked Chris.
So, Kellie has had 2 horrible weeks and I do think this was Taylor's worst. If Taylor goes I will be sad, b/c this is really the first bad one. Kellie has had some train wrecks!
I agree, I thought Katherine was good.
I will miss the result show tonight, grrrrr!

Usually the contestants have a vocal coach who works with them each week. This year, they seem to have changed the format to guest superstar coaches. It doesn't seem to be working -- very hit and miss. I think that may be why the contestants don't seem to be developing as much personality/individuality as before.

There was an article in the paper today that said the majority of the times the person who sings first goes home and the person singing last is safe--not even the bottom three. They listed all the statistics. The one time Chris was in the bottom three was the night he sang first.

Is Andrea Bocelli blind? I've read a few biographies but can't seem to find the information. For some reason, I remember buying a CD of his about 3 years back for a gift, but I don't remember him having his eyes closed like most of the pictures I see now.

Yes, he went blind at the age of 12 as the result of a football/soccer accident.

Yes, since childhood. I remember reading that he was visually impaired at birth and then something happened, an accident maybe? that left him completely blind.

While I can't imagine Kathryn going home tonight, she was in the bottom two before. Seriously, it has to be Kellie right? I love Elliot's voice. I don't think he is going to win, but I can't imagine him not getting a recording contract singing the type of music that he loves, and I would definitely buy it.

DH and I thought it was very ironic that Paris said she needed to be very careful about what love song she chose, since she is only 16 or whatever, yet a few weeks ago she did a Beyonce song that was about being in bed with someone. And the song she chose last night seemed more appropriate for someone middle-aged.
Even though I think that Brian Adams song Chris did was a terrible song, I thought he did a good job with it. He's so intense - he even made that cheesy song seem sexy.
DH and I thought Kathryn's performance was great, too, and were surprised by the judges reactions to it.
Simon cracking up at Paula crying over someone's (can't remember who) performance was really funny!
schuh
04-26-2006, 01:38 PM
I wish all the judges would go and we could have a new crop. Simon was clearly miffed about being cut off and Paula was on another planet. And they were all dead wrong about Kathryn. She isn't my favorite but she knocked it out of the park last night.
Kellie was awful. She has never been the best but she seemed truly out of sorts for the past two weeks. I hope the "vote for the worst" thing hasn't undermined her confidence.
And I'm worried about my man Taylor. I'm a big fan of his but last night wasn't his night. The key was too low for him. I wonder who picks some of those keys.
There's no doubt Paris is a huge talent, but last night's performance didn't do it for me. A 17-year-old doing "The Way We Were?" And she does tend to oversing songs.
My top three: Kathryn, Chris, Elliott.
The bottom three: the rest, with Kellie going home. But I have a feeling that's wishful thinking...

I posted this morning and then my DSL went down for the day.
Anyway, I too thought that Katharine sounded pretty good and didn't deserve such harsh criticism. It was almost a "how dare you attempt a Whitney song". I think that was her demise. :( She's actually one of my favorites, but I think I am in the minority here.
I enjoyed Chris and Elliott's performances as well, but could take or leave Paris. As for Kellie and Taylor, I hated both of their performances, but I haven't been impressed with either of them since the beginning of the Final 12 competitions. They've both had bad performances in past shows and still didn't make it to the bottom 3, so I really don't think that they will tonight either (unless those who have voted for them so many times have finally come to their senses).
It's really a toss up as to who will be in the bottom 3 and who will go. All I know, is that I won't mind if either Taylor, Kellie or Paris leave tonight, but I have a feeling that it could be Katherine - especially after the harsh judging. :(

Do you think it really matters that much if the judges don't give a performer a good review? I know it would probably make a difference if they were getting bad reviews every week, but one bad night wouldn't make me desert my favorite, and I would think most people feel that way.
I didn't get to see last night, because I was at work, and the kids couldn't get the VCR to work so they could tape it for me. :( Oh, well. I was VERY HAPPY to hear that my favorite (Elliot) got very good reviews, and I am glad to see so many people here agree that he did well. Wish I could have seen it, though.
Laura

Kathy, if you are interested in seeing Elliot's performance iwww.idolonfox will likely have it on their site in a few days. It often seems like the negative cricticism helps a contestant. Those who are worried that their favorite might be going home because of bad reviews are more motivated to vote.

Phew - I thought maybe I was from another planet when the judges gave Kathryn such a hard time! I thought she did very well, but like someone else said, if PAULA was less than flattering, something must have sounded off.
I basically agree with what everyone said here. Including about Paula being drunk - something was definitely off kilter for her. I'm so sorry she's signed on for another 3 years - I'm ready for her to go. Ugh.
My favorites were Chris and Elliot.
I was sad to see Taylor do so poorly. He looked terrible in that outfit, looked very uncomfortable and was WAY off in his singing.
I think Taylor might go tonight. Country music and pretty girls are too popular in this country for Kelly to go before Taylor. )Even if "pretty" might be an overstatement with that dorky hairstyle she was sporting last night. ) However, I fear for Elliot too - I can't figure out who is fan base would be - one large enough to carry him as far as he deserves to go.
But that's one fun thing about American Idol, you can speculate all you want, but you just never know! :)

Kat, Chris & Elliott
I pick "Pickler" to go.

Doesn't it feel good to be right for once? :D Simon and Randy apologized to Kat for the harsh comments they made to her last night...said they were wrong. She really did sound great.
I liked that they finally told us (sort of) who was voted in what order. I can't remember that they've ever given us that much information in the past...the top 2, middle 2, bottom 2.
Ryan didn't say what the theme is for next week, did he?
Andrea Bocelli is amazing! Can anyone remember the names of the new artists David Foster is recording with now? He mentioned his past young stars include Josh Groban and Michael Buble...and then he mentioned a couple of new names.
Yes, I'm rambling to get a little lower in the post.
Don't read any further if you're in central time or any further west than that.
Are you peeking?
Then STOP! :D
I only have one thing to say:
HOORRAY!!! I was thrilled to see Kat and Chris as the top 2!! That's the way it ought to be. If Kat was in the top two with the nasty comments last night, it sounds like people are finally voting for talent and not basing it on the judges comments. I'm ok with Elliott and Taylor being in the middle. That narrowed it to two names....highlight the next paragraph to see who went home.
I do think Paris and Kellie should have been the bottom two with Ms. Pickler heading back to Albemarle.
Oh yeah -> :D

Thanks for the info! My husband has hijacked the TV for hockey playoffs. I wish I had seen Simon and Randy apologize to Katherine! BTW, I think she handled last night's criticism amazingly well. I think she knew she did a good job, and just took it with a smile on her face.
I told my 8-year-old son the results and he's crying into his pillow. First Ace, now Kellie -- his favorites are gone.
I'm personally glad Kellie was the one to go tonight, but I feel bad for my little guy.

No, they didn't mention next week's theme.
As for the other artists: One is Renee Olstead who is a phenomenal 16-year-old singer. She sings one of the duets on Chris Botti's latest album and was on his PBS special. Incredible voice and poise for a 16-year-old! The other mentioned was Peter Cincotti, a singer and pianist similar, but not as good as, Michael Buble.

I bet they all avoid "Bad Day" since that's their kick-off-the-show tune! I noticed they had a different arrangement of it last night. I wonder if that was Daniel Powter singing or someone else. Wow...he may already have a cover tune! :D

I'd sure hope that nobody would touch that Natasha Bedingfield song either since a contestant already sang that one and got booted for it!
When Taylor was singing it seemed like someone went up to him right before he went on stage and told him his dog died or something...he seemed very distracted. It was too bad because I actually thought it was a good song choice for him.
I think the constructive criticism that Chris received really improved his singing.

but what was up with the serious pantyline people!? I would have been horrified if someone who's job it was to make me look good, sent me out on stage with a big old nasty looking pantyline. It seemed that the cameraman was lingering on it too! Both my friend and I noticed it right away. I also didn't like the top of the dress---I'm certainly not against a boobalicious cleavage---but I thought that particular one made her look like a mom who just got done breastfeeding triplets. One of the entertainment shows last night - Extra I think - slowed down Katherine's performance at one point and showed an "almost" wardrobe malfunction...her slit got a wee bit higher during her performance when she bent her knees.

I love the part about her grandfather wanting to "whup" Simon for calling her a minx. I have thought all along that while she may have played it up a bit, her personality was really who she is - like it or not. After 2 really bad performances, it really was her time to go, but she definitely has real talent and it is nice to see someone overcome such a rough life to do something good for themselves, like Kellie has.

I think the next vote-offs are going to be really tough. This may be the best "top 5" in terms of talent that they've had. My guess is that Paris will be the next to go.
"Bad Day' is only popular becuase of Idol! I guess that shows the power of this show. I believe the "Billboard" selection in years past has allowed them to go with any of the Billboard Top 10 charts, which is more than you would think (includes alt rock, country, etc.). I'll bet Chris will do the Chili Peppers if he can get the rights to sing it.

I don't think it was mentioned on the show before, but it was in the news this week:
Idol's Ryan and Paula Disagree on Feud
NEW YORK (AP) - "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest says he and judge Paula Abdul aren't speaking to one another, but Abdul calls reports of a feud "ridiculous."
Seacrest told People magazine last week that his relationship with Abdul was "awkward."
"I don't know what the deal is. It's very awkward," he was quoted as saying.
The 31-year-old Seacrest, who openly spars with "Idol" judge Simon Cowell, told the magazine: "Simon and I go back and forth with each other, but it's in a different way."
Asked if he was speaking to Abdul, Seacrest answered, "No."
Seacrest also said he hadn't talked to Abdul about the apparent rift.
"You know, I walked past her dressing room the other day and there was a group of people gathered in front of the door, so I can't even talk to her," he said.
Abdul dismissed reports of off-camera animosity in a statement Tuesday to The Associated Press.
"Reports of a feud are ridiculous," the 43-year-old former pop star said. "We are one funny dysfunctional family. There's nothing but love."
Any tension between the "Idol" host and judge might have come after their separate appearances on "The Tonight Show."
In Seacrest's March 30 guest spot, host Jay Leno joked about Abdul's "loopy" behavior in an "Idol" episode, to which Seacrest replied: "Well, have you listened to her album?"
And when Leno playfully asked whether Abdul had been drinking alcohol, Seacrest said, "Hey look, I don't look in their cups to see what's sitting before them on that table. But at times I feel like we have reeled her in."
During her April 10 appearance, Abdul shot down rumors that Seacrest was dating "Desperate Housewives" star Teri Hatcher.
"He only kisses the mirror," Abdul said. "And honestly, do you think Teri Hatcher is that desperate of a housewife?"

I can't really add much that hasn't been said, except that I also think that the right person went home and Chris is still my favorite :D .
Anyone else think that David Foster would be a great regular (or even guest) judge??? He actually offered advice that would be useful to the contestants, and didn't just say that he loved them all.
I think Ryan is right in calling them a "disfunctional family".

Am I deaf? I thought Katharine was outstanding, but all three judges panned her.
I thought she was fantastic too, and definitely the best of the night. Kellie's performance was really painful to listen too - definitely the right person to go this time. Next week is going to be really hard, but I think Paris and Taylor are probably next in line. I loved Paris in the beginning auditions, and Taylor in the first few performances, but neither of them have really moved me since then. I think Katharine and Chris have been the most consistent and think it'll be them in the top 2.

I agree...I have loved Chris from the begining but Katharine has grown on me over the past few weeks...she had a beautiful voice a beautiful presence...to the point that I like her (almost) better that Taylor. Taylor has next week to REALLY show us something great or he is outta there for me. He has such potential to be unique and different but has to back it up with his performances...he is such a whack he could be great!
I agree with Missindi...Chris and Katharine. (Although I think Elliot has been getting some behind the scenes coaching and is sooooooo much better in front of the camera...he may make his way up there too ;) )
