We plan to spend a chunk of change. :D We had planned to spend it this weekend, but tomorrow will be fine! It's my counter un-boycott! We plan to dine out for all three meals! We plan to work. We plan to have a very productive day!
I hope that you enjoy your day, as well!

Yes I think I will have to go. I'm sure there will be something for me to buy.

Tomorrow will be a huge shopping day for me and DH. We will be hitting the grocery store, Costco, Home Depot, Petco, Macys, Cost Plus, the beauty supply, Walgreens, Barnes and Noble, the gas station and the nursery. I've been collecting my shopping lists for over a week now. We will also be wearing blue and red.
Happy shopping everyone! :D
Peggy
P.S. To be truthful, I must add that Monday is my usual shopping and errand day but I have saved up a few extra shopping purchases just for the May 1st date.

Today, Monday the 1st, we had a painter scheduled to come to our house. He's white and legal. This morning he went to Home Depot to get some supplies for the job. There were protesters there. When he came out his windshield was smashed and 3 of his tires were slashed!
Be extremely careful if you go out shopping today.

Someone needs to explain that a boycott is a non-violent protest. I am going shopping after work...this really ticks me off!

This makes me see red. I am also wearing it today and am going shopping after work and plan on hitting a couple of Ross' too. Thanks for the warning.
Carrie, you may run into a friend of mine at Tyler Mall today. She hates shopping and plans on doing so until she drops.

OH drats, I just realized after I stepped out of the house wearing my new Old Navy shirt thats...White :( . Plus it doesn't help that I'm part latin so people will probably think I'm for it!
Well anyways, I held off shopping over the weekend as much as it killed me so I could do it today after work. I hope that this will help.
That is a complete disgrace to know that protesters will go to the extent of slashing tires and smashing in windows, that is just pure ignorance.

What a shame. My dh was at Home Depot this morning and said the place was crawling with cops and people handing out flyers ....

I went shopping this afternoon and the only difference I saw was that the 2 Mexican food restaurants were closed. So now I'll be making Mexican food at home until our restaurant opens...if they can thumb their nose at our $100+ weekly food tab then obviously they don't want my business.

Same here....They have seen the last of me. I live in an impoverished rural area...people probably don't even realize that there was a boycott today. :( It wasn't covered in my newspaper. :(

I find it odd that the reaction is shopping. It's obviously just a statement, but racking up the ol' credit card just doesn't seem like a positive statement to me. It was kind of like when everyone was encouraged to shop after 9/11. Like it makes everything be OK.

Went to Lowes and bought mulch to spread myself.

I think the point is not to spend money, per se, but since the request from the protesters was NOT to shop, to show solidarity with the people who work here illegally and to try and hurt the economy to prove we need illegals, those that do not want to support the protesters are shopping as a way to display their own beliefs.
Most people here aren't racking up the credit card with unnecessary purchases I don't think, but rather buying the things they need and would have bought anyway today, instead of yesterday or tomorrow.

As much as I don't think one day is really going to affect the economy too much, I think the illegal immigrants do a lot for the economy. I honestly don't feel that many Americans would be willing to do the jobs they do. I think agriculture would be nearly destroyed without their work. Something needs to happen so that the immigrants can work here, otherwise I think we'll be paying $10/pound for oranges and the like.

From an email I rec'd written by a retired border patrol officer:
"There are no jobs that Americans won't do. Illegal aliens are doing jobs that Americans can't take and still support their families. Illegal aliens take low wage jobs, live dozens in a single residence home, share expenses and send money to their home country. There are no jobs that Americans won't do for a decent wage."
If it means paying higher prices for produce then I'm for giving those jobs back to American citizens or legal workers.

I agree. Something needs to be done. Allowing people to continue to come here illegally isn't the answer. There has to be some kind of LEGAL, guest worker program (or the like, I'm not so picky about specifics). I am not for instant amnesty. Rewarding people who broke the law is not the answer either. I definitely agree that the vast majority of the people here illegally work, and work hard and contribute a lot. I am not for rounding people up and putting them on busses and sending them back. That's ridiculous.
I do resent, however, the demanding tone to these protests, the idea that these people are owed instant citizenship. I'm not sure what they want, exactly, if not that.
If it's so bad here, I'm not sure then why they come.
