I realized today when opening the paint supplies that my children use were covered in rust marks. I had stored them in a tin cookie box and the brushes, etc I guess were not dry before putting them away.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can remove the stains.

Thanks

Terri

OK I can't help Terri-Lynn, but I can't resist adding a question: Does anyone have toilet bowl rust problems? I moved into a new house about a month ago and never had this problem before!

Basically, I use Clorox bleach cubes (or whatever they're called) but I'm getting rust streaks above the water line in the bowl. It's a bear to scrub off- and comes right back! Any ideas? TIA.

Coca Cola can remove rust. I know it would take the rust off a nail, if left in the glass for a few days. Can't hurt to try.

For the toilet, there is the CLR (I think it is that name) that removes rust. I have never used it, just seen it in the store and on commericals.

There is a product called Bar Keeper's Friend that I use in the kitchen, and the can says it removes rust. I have never tried that before, but if your grocery store carries that you may want to give it a whirl.

I don't know if it works for rust, but I use Zud to clean stains from porcelain. It's the best thing I've found by far.

Thanks everyone!

I think I will try the coke first, since it is the most natural. The one year old eats everything, at least I wont have to worry about him getting sick.

I love CLR! It takes all stains off toilets, tubs, tile, ceramic, grout...

Terri-Lynn - were the brush handles rusted because they were metal or covered in rust dust from the tin cookie box? was it the tin cookie box that rusted from the wet brushes or the brushes themselves?

I have used Zud and Bar Keeper's Friend ( a current regular under my sink -- even rescued some laundry recently), but not the Coke. I'll have to remember that one too.

I would also say CLR for the toilet bowl.

Comabri,

The brushes were still wet I guess when I put them in and caused the tin box to rust, this put rust stains on the brush (bristle) portion of all the brushes and their stamps.
