I'm sure this is a dumb question, but here it goes.

Can you make ice cream without an ice cream maker, and if so how?

I know that you knowledgable people out there can answer this.

Thanks

Yes, you can...here is one to try:

Lemon Ice Cream
1 Large or two small lemons (enough to measure 4 or 5 Tablespoons)
1 Cup sugar
2 cups heavy whipping cream
Grate zest of lemon into 8" square glass dish. Add lemon juice and sugar and stir until completely
blended (1 - 2 minutes)
Add cream and stir until thoroughly mixed and smooth.
Cover dish with foil and freeze until set. (4 or more hours or overnight) Do not stir.

Take ice cream out of freezer about 5-10 minutes before serving for easier
scooping and better taste.

Thanks Goldilocks, I will give it a try. There has been so many good recipes lately, and I dont think I will be purchasing an ice cream maker any time soon.

When I was in college, my roommate and I used to make ice cream with a homemade ice cream maker. We used two coffee cans. The small diameter one we put the ice cream ingredients into and the placed inside of the larger one. We then filled the gap with rock salt and ice. Then we rolled it across the room for awhile. What a great treat. Especially since we could have never afforded an ice cream maker.

cchhbb,

Now that sounds like an activity that the kids would love!!! Who needs to buy one when you can let them go at it.

Thanks a bunch for the tip!!!
