I ordered the Taste For Living cookbook. There's a great chocolate cake recipe in there which calls for silken tofu. I have checked all of our grocery stores and can't find "silken" tofu. I can find "silken style" but not silken. I tried making it with silken style and it didn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you have any health food stores nearby, try that. My regular market didn't have silken, but the health food store did. Good luck.

As far as I know, silken style and silken tofu are the same thing. What didn't work about your recipe?

I tried both of our health stores and they don't have it either.
The cake came out very flat and hard. I used the silken style, extra firm tofu. Would the silken style soft work the same as silken?

I think specifically the type you are looking for is in a box which is self stable (not refrigerated). It is not packed in water like the others are. I have seen it in the dairy case with the other tofu and also, just on the shelf (I guess in the asian ingredients aisle). I have also seen it in Trader Joes (I'm in CA). Hopefully this gives you some help as to what you are looking for.
This tofu has a very different consistency than the other version and is very good for baking.

I tried the boxed kind from King Soopers (Krogers) but I used the extra firm. Guess I'll try to softest I can find in the silken style. Thanks for all your help.

Perhaps the problem was that they wanted Silken Tofu (SOFT), instead of the Extra Firm? Does the recipe specify?

The recipe called for silken tofu. I went to Vitasoy's website and there is such a thing as just silken tofu.

Well, if you can't find the self stable type anywhere, then the next best thing would be to get the type packed in water and get the silken variety (there should be silken, firm and extra firm).

Here's a link to the kind found around the country most often on the grocery shelves I've seen (not refrigerated). As you can see it has silken tofu, but it comes in soft, firm and extra firm types. I think in a cake it'd probably be best to use soft, especially if your last try wasn't right.
BTW, they use the terms Silken Tofu and Silken Style Tofu interchangeably.

The link was a great help. I think I'll try the cake with soft silken like and see how it comes out. Thanks for everyone's help!
I don't what part of the country you are in, but if you live where there is a Kroger grocery, they carry it in some of their stores.
