So, my birthday isn't for another week but my a box from my dad arrived this week. I already knew he was giving me a bicycle repair kit so I opened it when it came. I left the small box wrapped and there was a book wrapped in tissue too. I could see that it was Everyday Italian but was trying to be good and not open. Tonight, after a very tough week I decided to give in. I opened the wrapping and opened it up to the first page to enjoy on a relaxing Friday night. It took me a couple of moments to realize that it is SIGNED! By Giada! OMG, he had mentioned she was going to be in Portland the week after I was there and I had totally forgotten. He went down and got a copy signed for me. I have such a good papa (I've always called him that)! Even if his dog bit me... ;)
I knew you guys would appreciate it!

What a neat gift :) And the fact he took the time to go down there and you know the lines had to be horrendous. Way cool and Happy Birthday early! :)

Great story. Thanks for sharing. :)
Robynn, my dad would never stand in a line for an autographed anything that I can think of - especially a cookbook. He's not one to stand in line at all. He'd be more likely to buy me a copy of everything on the shelf than to stand in line for a single anything. That is a true gift.
Enjoy the book, the bike and the birthday still ahead!

Your dad must be very special to do that! What a heartwarming story... even with the dog bite!
How is that, by the way? Hopefully, it's healing well, and no further treatments will be necessary! ;)

Yep, he is pretty special. We had our rocky years but our relationship is really good now and I treasure that! I am shocked that he stood in line though. ;) The hand is better, I got back on my bike for the first time today. No surgery needed but there is some minor nerve damage on the back of the hand but hopefully that will get better with time.
