So what do you think? I think the judges were way too harsh on Katharine again. The show was already biased toward male singers with an Elvis theme, and I thought she did a great job. I also think Elliot was better than all of them tonight. They are all four very talented and should do well in their careers no matter what. It'll be interesting to see how the voting goes.

I thought they were rough with Katharine too. I loved her first performance!
I have to admit they all did really well. All I can do now is base is on favorites. Is it right to vote based on just tonight's performances when they've had weeks of excellent work?? I still want Kat and Chris to be the final two.
Guess I'd better get busy trying to get through the busy signals. :D
I thought they all did well. I've been a fan of Chris and Taylor and loved them tonight. Chris sang two of my favorite Elvis songs....I just love his voice. I am assuming Katherine might get voted off, just b/c of the comments. I really have no idea! It will be sad to see any one of the leave at this point.

I really think that Taylor needs to go, but I think it will be Katharine. :( Elliott proved himself this evening and needs to continue on. We'll have to see how the voting goes though (wishful thinking :) ).

Yes, goodbye Katharine! She committed the cardinal sin by forgetting lyrics. If I recall, every contestant who has forgotten lyrics in the past (not just this season) has been voted off. She'll still do quite well for herself. I keep thinking of that comment in TV Guide about Paris having the potential to do so much better career-wise without the obligation to Idol.
Elliott's approach was quite interesting in that he did two very obscure songs, so, unless you're a diehard Elvis fan, you have nothing to compare to.

I actually agreed with Simon on her tonight - I thought her first song sounded really rushed and funny, and then her second song was just OK. She has a great voice, but I think she lets performance nerves get to her. Elliott was wonderful; Taylor's first song was cheesy but then his second song was good; and Chris was his usual consistent self. I also believe we're going to have an all-male final three.

I have to admit that Elvis night was better than I had anticipated. But I also have to admit that I did not see the last performance of the evening as the 2 margaritas I had at dinner caught up with me and I fell asleep!!!
I think whoever said it's down to fan base size is right....fans were already established, now it's just a matter of whose is bigger.
That said, I think it will be a little sad to see any of them go at this point.

I agree with Beth - Katharine's first song did seem rushed, but I liked her cute cover when she forgot the words. Her second song was better, and I thought the judges were a little too hard on her.
I loved Chris' songs, both of them, and Taylor was good as well.
Didn't care for Elliott's first one, but liked the second. I think he has definitely come a long way.
I think Chris is safe. After that, it's getting hard!

I think Elliott needs to win this competition to get the push behind him with a record contract and the label as American Idol winner to get far in the recording industry.
I think Chris, Taylor and Katharine will go far on their own, whether they win or not.

I agree with you there. However, having never bought an AI contestant CD (group or individual), of the the four left, the only one I would never even think of buying is Taylor's. I just can't get his dancing out of my head, no matter what he sings. The other 3 are more possible, but not really probable. I'm probably in the minority here, but that's just me.

I loved Taylor last night, and have from the beginning. I think he did an awesome job on "In The Ghetto".
I've never been a huge fan of Katherine's, and last night I think she sealed it up to go home. I would be surprised if she didn't. I couldn't even listen to her last performance.
I agree with Beth - an all-male Final 3 would be great, and at that point, I would be happy with any choice.

I didnt think Kathryn did a good job, she was way over singing to me, almost screaming. I think if she had toned it down and sang quieter it would have been much better. And her range didnt fit the songs. I think she has a beautiful voice, but is having trouble with song picks.
Its going to be tough, I liked Taylor, (whose voice really sounds like Michael McDonald) Chris (Chris sounded flat though, like he need to add some ummmphh to it unlike Kathryn singing to loud) and Yamin. I cant belive how far Yamin has come, Tommy Mottola kept saying over and over, it was going to be tough to sing that 2nd song, I dont think Tommy thought Yamin could do it, and everyone aid that was his best AI performance.
I see though Chris and Kathryn in the bottom with Kathryn being voted off.

I thought Taylor did an AMAZING job with "In the Ghetto." I have not always liked his performances in the past (thought some of them were cheesy), but he blew me away last night with that one.
Chris was just okay--thought he's had better nights. He won't be going anywhere though.
I think Elliott has done a great job and I hope he sticks around. The obscurity of the songs he chose may work against him though...

Me too!
We missed the show this week and actually forgot to tape it - I hate that! It's interesting that there are so many men left and that it sounds like a distinct possibility that it would be an all-male final 3. I think it was clear from the beginning that the men were much more promising than the women. Interesting to see what happens tonight.

Well it's almost time to find out who leaves. This is the first time in the history of American Idol where I feel the top four were all worthy of the title. I'd love to have a fraction of any of their talent. The good news is they all get to go on tour, and they all have different angles they can tap into in the music industry. Look at Clay, he didn't win, but he did just fine. They'll all do well if they are meant to. Think about Justin (from the Kelly days). No one hears about him anymore, but if his talent was true and special he would've thrived.

I'm utterly shocked. I liked all four but I thought that person was the shoe-in for the finals. Of course, I thought that about Mandisa, too.
Tell me ... is it a death knell when Paula says "see you in the finals?" Didn't she say that to Constantine last year just before he left?
I also felt a little bad for the person who expected to go home and was standing right next to the loser. That person seemed stunned and didn't know what to do next.

Tracy - I thought this exact same thing. When the camera was on Katherine, it looked as though she had serious heartburn. I think she knew in her heart that she was going home, and was utterly shocked and amazed when the announcement was made.

I think he'll probably be fine too, but you can't beat the guaranteed exposure that the winner gets.
Kelly Clarkson is going strong and maybe even getting stronger - I don't know if any of the others can say that - even the winners!
This is the first season that a potential winner has not made it to the final 2, IMO.

Found this on their website....
"Next week each singer sings three songs: (1) picked by the judges; (2) picked by the contestants; and (3) a song by Clive Davis, who will produce the winner's album."
My whole family is sad. We were rooting for a couple of the others, but we liked him, too and we just assumed he was safe. Maybe everyone did, and that was his downfall.

I think the voting went the way it did because of the "Tamara Grey" syndrome, as I like to call it. Remember she was in the first season with Kelly and Justin in the final 3. I think everyone assumed she's be in the finals so they voted for Kelly or Justin and no one voted for her. She was such a superior singer, and got booted before Justin. I think that happened this time as well. Everyone assumed Chris would go to the finals, no one voted for him. As others have said, I'm sure he'll have a great carrer no matter what.

Naah. I think in this case they are grasping at straws. I for one really like Taylor, and think he brings something unique to the table. I love his voice. I think he has a big fan base that has nothing to do with that Web site.
I do think the theory that everyone expected Chris to be in the finals and therefore didn't vote has some merit.

I am definitely in the WTF group. Although I am sure the rest of the group are very nice people, and are obviously talented to have made it this far, I really thought Chris had the best voice. Maybe this will work out the best for him. I can't decide if I will keep watching, as I just don't really care who wins now. I'll be looking out for his CD, as I am sure that someone will snap him up.
A couple of reports are saying that the judges probably did Katharine a favor by panning her performances as her fans knew they had to keep voting to keep her in, whereas Paula's comment about Chris had his fans thinking he was a shoe-in. Well, not me, as I voted for him (a few time, well maybe more than a few ;) :D ). I think he did pretty well considering some of the themes they had - many were really not his style. If only he could have lasted until next week, when he would have not had the same constraints of Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow, and Elvis.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I'm feeling more "meh" about this group than about any other in the previous seasons of AI even though I agree with those who think this group is the most musically talented. None of them has ever really grabbed me. While I think Chris has a great voice, I don't think it is particularly unique, and I found him to be really emotionally flat. Still, I was surprised he went last night based on how much other people seemed to like him! Of the three remaining, I'm for Elliott though I think Taylor is going to win.

I am in complete SHOCK!!! I think Ryan purposely went for the shock value effect by announcing it the way he did. I couldn't believe my ears. My DH is so upset, he says he's never watching the show again. Chris should have won. They are all talented - but in my opinion, he was head and shoulders ahead of the others. I KNEW there was going to be uproar on this thread this morning!!
We hadn't watched the performance show this week, but just based on previous performances we were intrigued last night when they split them up in twos. DH was convinced that Chris and Katherine were the top two because they had been the week before (or was it the week before that?). But I thought it was going to go the other way. Then we both thought it would be Katherine - and we were also shocked and it took us a second to "get it" because of the way Ryan announced it. Everyone really did look stunned, especially Chris. And I also felt bad for Katherine.
I've said before that I'm in the minority in not thinking Chris was the best - ironically, when he sang "Love Me Tender" last night (I think that's what it was) I thought he was great. When he's not screaming, he really does have a great voice. I have to wonder if that's part of what knocked him off - to me he started to sound the same every week and wasn't really showing off his talent. And I agree with Stephanie that he wasn't showing as much personality as some of the others. It seems like he's a great guy and I think he'll have a music career ahead of him.
I was really pleased with all of the positive feedback for Elliot - it's a shame that we missed the show the night before but it seems like he really did throw everyone for a loop when he sang so well. Good for him!
Anyone think that Rebecca Romaine's (however you spell her name) request was planned ahead of time?

I thought it was planned about the song request. The "mike" happen to be in the same spot that it was when he first performed that song! I thought Ryan's annoucement of who was leaving was unusaul. It was like he said it and wanted to run off the stage. I was unsure if Chris was wanting to sing. He looked a little p***ed. He will still go very far!
Anyone think that Rebecca Romaine's (however you spell her name) request was planned ahead of time?
I was wondering that myself. The guitar player appeared ready to go and it never seems like they have enough time on the half hour show for anything, but Ford commercials. Usually, the bottom two sing a song from the previous night. I would have loved to have heard a full version of "Suspicious Minds" from Chris, instead of the cut off version.
I'm excited to see what happens for Chris down the road.

I thought that might happen with DS if Katherine got voted off the show, because she is his favorite and he is so intense about things (he's 15). So I started talking BEFORE the show about how it would be sad for any of them to go, but they were all great and someone has to leave and look how far they got and with all the experiences they have had this is just the beginning for all of them and on and on.
When you think about it, there are a lot of life lessons in the show....
not taking things for granted
never give up
give it your best shot
shoot for the moon, land among the stars
I think we talked about most of them last night after the show. (Laying the groundwork for whatever happens the next few weeks!)

I think that definitely contributed, although I was absolutely stunned when Ryan told Chris he was the one going home. I thought the Chris/Kat twosome was the bottom two, but I just assumed it was her leaving. Also, since it seemed fairly obvious each week the judges thought he was headed to the finals, perhaps his fans became complacent. If he's asked to be the lead singer in a band like Fuel, his career will end up fine. (I had always thought the judges knew in advance who was going, but Simon looked pretty shocked, didn't he?)
I would have loved an all-guys final three, but Kat is talented if she can pull together some good performances. I will cheer for a Taylor/Elliott final two, though! Who would have guessed Elliott would make it this far?

I have been annoyed in the past that the announcement was drawn out and theatrical--that seemed totally cruel to me. Quick always seemed better IMO. So, I guess there is really no kind way to do this--it's all rejection on a high level. I've never understood how they could possibily stand up there and SING after being "sent home"
I think one factor from here on out is WHO will get the votes from people who voted for the one who went home. Who benefitted most from Paris going home? Probably not Chris. Who will benefit most from Chris's departure? That could make a tremendous impact on the outcome.

Why do you feel that Taylor doesn't "deserve" to be AI? You may not like his style as much as the others, but I think whoever wins has worked very hard, as much as all of them! And yes, I would love to see Taylor win! I was over Chris, he just sounded the same every week (although I really thought he would be the winner!). Oh, of course he has worked hard, I didn't say he didn't. My statement is just my opinion. There have been a few weeks where he should have been in the bottom three, but wasn't. I'm not saying he should have gone home, but clearly his performances were bottom 3 (IMHO). For whatever reason, he has those fans that keep voting him in - kind of like Anthony last year. He was good enough to get into the competition, but once he was there, he wasn't good enough to stay to the end. That's how I feel about Taylor. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, I'm just stating my feelings, just like everyone else here has.

Is there an east coast bias on this show? Do east coasters get to vote for hours on end (i.e., until the west coast is done - or even Hawaii) or does their voting end at 3 hours? Ryan does say that the phones are open for at least 3 hours.

I agree with you on Taylor. (Although he's not as bad as Anthony!) I find him (like Simon) sort of "karoke" and "wedding singer-ish." He has a nice voice, and a solid voice, but it's just not "wow."

My understanding is that each time zone gets a two hour voting block, with Hawaii coming in as the last viewers and voters. I had had no trouble getting through - I hope my vote was being counted - maybe that's why Chris got the lowest votes, they forgot to count all of my votes ;) :D
